Maybe you should read the book Anthem. OR how about you consider that some people have multiple talents and don't want to do just one thing for there entire lives. You know, in fact I know several people like that, For example I know a pastor who had another job coaching High School Basketball, and I know a computer Engineer whose also a part time musician, and I know school teacher who does music for weddings, a dancer who's also a psychologist and another piano teacher whose a dancer. I know a music teacher who is also working on a masters in psychology, and I myself used to clean houses and work in a home health care setting. Look my point is why would you resign yourself one position if you like doing two things or even three? Its ridiculous. Part of the beauty in the U.S and even other Societies is the fact that we HAVE CHOICES!!!!

I started out doing electronics, then moved on to computers, then graphic design, and now I have a job that uses computers and graphic design and data processing for a law firm. I iz multitalentated. My boss told me I am his Jack-knife, because whatever he needs he just pulls out the Sparko jack-knife and I have the skillz to get it done. I can also cook and do plumbing and home electrical work. I can sort of play the guitar.

I'm a software developer (having decided I wanted to enter IT when I was in high school and having studied it at Technikon and it's been my field since I graduated. I also seriously considered studying to become a Civil Engineer (as one of my brothers and my one cousin is).

I also got a 135 on an IQ test I took. But all that was before I got hooked on bacon. sigh.

When it said I was in the top 3% I came to the same conclusion. I think I am just really good at taking tests. Although this one had a bunch of physical dexterity tests too. like putting nuts on bolts, etc. There was one that I sort of cheated on but it was allowed. They had a wooden box with a lid on it. Opened it up and it was full of pegs painted top half red, bottom half white. We were told to transfer all of the pegs to the holes in the lid and flip them over as we moved them. So I put the lid back on, turned over the box and opened it up again. All of the pegs were on the lid and flipped over. The other test takers got upset and said I cheated, but the test proctor just laughed and said that it was valid. Others did the same thing after that. I heard they changed that test the next year and made it so you had to flip the pegs and put them back in the same hole.

So if I am a genius, they would enslave me to design rocket ships all day long, and if you were an idiot (which clearly you are) you would get to sit at home watching cartoons and we would have the same lifestyle, except I would be working my butt off while you didn't do anything at all. Is that fair? Why should I have to work just because I am smarter than you? Why can't I just sit at home watching cartoons too?

I'm fairly certain that's what he wants. And its really not ok. He wants the genius's and inventors to get paid the same as the idiots. Although he'll twist it to make sure that he "says" that small business owners get paid the same as large corporate companies. And ok look, while there is a certain insanity to the amount of income larger corporations can hide/get away with and there likely SHOULD be some regulation on this, total marxism sure as crap isn't the answer and neither is taxing the hide out of small businesses.

This is what you are advocating though, the very societies that former Marxists hate. Ayn Rand wrote Anthem as hyperbole. In Russia if you want an economic out you had to be someone the government really likes. There was no idea of induvidualism and there was no appreciation for a person's uniqueness. I'm so glad you don't get to decide what people's talents are. My husband for one is very unique and gifted academically and a talented musician, but the best career he's had? Is a mailman, and only in the US can a person choose for themselves what kind of life they want. Maybe one day he'll decide otherwise, and i'm glad HE will decide and not some arbitrator in the government.

Okay, I think I see the problem. JR (or his critics) is confusing communism with socialism. Communism is always socialist, but socialism isn't always communist. US is indeed a socialist country but not a communist country... at least not yet.

Have you SEEN the politicians we have as leaders? You want them to have total power over you? Yes I think that if America were to become communist, that it would end up as a dictatorship just like Russia and China and Cuba and all of the other communist countries. If not even ONE communist country can not be a totalitarian dictatorship, what makes you think America would be any different? Wishful thinking?

And now instead of socialism you want a democracy instead of a republic? That just ends up being tyranny by the majority. Instead of being fair, the largest groups will tell the minority groups how they want things to be. And you will have no choice but to obey. He made his choices based on what he wanted and preferred in life. The rest is his and my business as to why he chose and really likes being a career postman now isn't it unless he wants to tell you where he started in college, what his degree was and where he ended up and why. But for all his many talents (music is just one of them) He's a terrific postman and he likes the work. Another relative whose also an extremely talented musician, is a computer engineer by day and a musician every once in a while. I have another blood relative who is a musician and is a pastor in another state. I personally am a musician, but I chose to be a stay at home mom after a stint as a nurse tech (different from a nurse, a lower position) and a cleaning lady. And you aren't pulling the strings. You are not deciding who does what we all made our own choices. Maybe we are happy, you can't decide that. Thank God you can't decide that. I'm glad you can't. I'd rather you didn't.
