That's my guess, too. But Iran hadn't been firing missiles into Iraq for a very long time.

IOW, next time they'll be more accurate. If there is a next time. My guess is Iranian missile bases and mobile launchers will soon be targets.

Very hard to say what could happen. It's a volatile situation, but I really don't see Iran launching a full-scale land war. It would be impossible to play the victim at that point, and it would give the US and its allies free license to use whatever force necessary to repel the invasion.

I doubt it. Homeland insurgency, create yet another mid-east quagmire via Afghanistan style, drain America's economy and political morale. That's assuming how patient and intelligent Iran is. It's also not clear what Russia will do. Putin apparently had an unexpected meeting with Assad; not sure what that was about, but it most likely had to do with this situation.
