No dog in this fight, but doesn't Cumming's district include West Baltimore? Like one of the most dangerous areas of Baltimore? Most of my knowledge of West Baltimore (and Baltimore in general) comes from The Wire, but doesn't really look like a comfortable, low crime place to live.

The only time I ever saw The Wire was when I was walking through the room while my mom was watching it and I saw a penis on screen as part of some sexting scene or something. Not a good introduction. My understanding is that the earliest Christians avoided the theater altogether to avoid participating in sin; my suggested compromise is to at least avoid entertainment that graphically portrays sinful activity.

However, I'm going to admit that I have been wrong in most of this thread. Cummings district does include part of the city of Baltimore. I still don't think that exonerates Trump from charges of racism (at some point, with enough tweets, it seems less plausible to look at everything in the best possible light) but that does weaken the argument I've been using.

Yes, I agree. I don't think it can be absolutely proved absent an outright admission to that effect. I do think we can observe a pattern of statements that make it less likely to read every subsequent statement in the most charitable light possible.

The early Christians avoided theater because of its strong association with pagan belief and pagan debauchery, something made clear in Tertullian's De spectaculis, and Augustine's City of God and Confessions. By the Middle Ages, once fear of pagan influence had subsided, we see a strong interest in theater among Christians.

They also believed it was hypocritical to pretend that you were someone else, even while acting.
