eh, you get the idea. I'm not sure what reality you think I need protecting from. If God doesn't exist, I'd have, like Obama after the election, more flexibility in my dealings with "Russia". Faith doesn't protect me from reality, it protects you from me.

You OTOH have plenty of reasons to live in a perverse bubble. Atheists like to "create meaning". But what if the meaning you create is based entirely on false premises? To atheists not pre-disposed to hedonism then nihilism truly must be a living hell and you would do anything to avoid it, even if it means reinforcing the titanium steel bubble you've built.

Senate Republicans are severing ties with Moore, all based on unsubstantiated accusations.

It seems discrepancies are coming to light regarding the allegations. It's being says that Moore's primary accuser, Liegh Corfman, would have been 17 at the time of the alleged incident, not 14, and that she has a long history of martial and financial problems and has falsely accused several other men of sexual impropriety in the past.

This is coming from people who claim to be neighbours of Corfman and from Corfman's own Facebook page.

If true then Corfman is not the most credible witness.

She has openly admitted to having a string of difficulties in her past but the rest, if accurate, would be reason to doubt the veracity of her claims.

It's personal between Putin and Clinton. And more, for Putin at least, it's visceral. Putin bluffed down an angry mob in East Berlin ready to storm his KGB building after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This isn't the guy who's going to shrug off crowds of demonstrators in the streets calling for him to be removed from office.

TBH, there haven't been many presidents, let alone recent presidential candidates, who would stack up well against Putin (perhaps Ike, JFK, Reagan - though Putin is no Gorbachev). The one thing Trump has going for him here is a willingness to listen to his military leaders and more or less let them do their jobs.

"Well aware" didn't keep him from posting a rumor that took moments to debunk, not that it was credible to begin with. The easy arithmetic, all by itself, says he never checked the obvious. I'm that observant, always. Why weren't you? And why are you pushing back at the more careful sourcing, and sliding on the least.

I'm not fond of clickbait sites, but this isn't heavy analysis. Heh heh. It's her age. I suppose it's possible to spin it out that she's fudging her birthday to make it worse, while missing the better chance by keeping the underwear on, but that's crazy talk. Next thing they'll be calling her a Kenyan and claiming it's not her real birth certificate.

You laugh, but I've seen it done.

What's most disturbing is how quickly folks are sharing these flimsy attacks on the victim. If Weinstein is teaching us anything, it's that those days are over. This behavior is repugnant, and needs to stop. Y'all are Christians. Moore's a Christian. This is your PR. The guards need to take their stations. Circle around and protect the wimmenfolk.

It's not rocket science either. The accusation is all but trivial, and would have been bound to be outplayed in the next news cycle. Yesterday it was Diana Nyad and her swim coach. Today it's George Takei. Apologize and move on.

He wouldn't have to go full Swaggart.

More directly, leaving military affairs to the generals is iffy. As a country, we know that's a bad idea, even if it's the best option with this administration. I'm all the way okay with wiping ISIS out of Raqqa without troubling overmuch about civilians who are bound to suffer more carnage from an extended campaign. They flattened that city, though.

But I've not okay with the generals claiming there's no option short of invasion to disarm North Korea. That's for the diplomats to say, and the military leaders to stay shut about to leave the diplomatic field free for maneuvers. Of course, that means leaving it to Tillerson, who's got his own relationship troubles with Trump.

It's not that Tillerson called him a moron, it's how he emphasized it.
