Not all migrants, which is what your thread title is attempting to suggest.

I never said ALL. But yes, it is the immigrants that are causing the bulk of crime. Why do you think the right wing anti immigrant party is gaining so much traction - the Swedish people see what is going on...

Single, young men - from anywhere - migrating to a new country is suspicious. It is doubly suspicious if they have no degree or have experience in some trade. It is triply suspicious if they are refugees. IMO

Your thread title is a generalisation.

          If I write that:

Americans are educationally illiterate and morbidly obese.

That is also a generalisation because it pertains to all Americans.

There's nothing wrong with saying that if that's your impression. If statistics back that up, then people may seek some action to counter it. If statistics back up the generalization that immigrants in Sweden are creating an inordinate amount of crime, then action to counter that is not unreasonable.

Sorry, it's a fact. immigrants are causing the majority of crime. Do you deny that?

Generalizations do not apply to all members of the group.

You really have a problem understanding generalized statements don't you? Neither statement means "all"

The use of generalisations is fallacious they imply all is true when some is true.

And without any qualification it applies to all - hence all Americans are educationally illiterate and morbidly obese.

And your example is as ridiculous as mine. Both make generalisations that are patently incorrect.

If you find one German who does not goose-step and does not show unquestioning loyalty to a leader and I find one American who is not educationally illiterate and is not morbidly obese then both our statements are shown to be fallacious.

Hence seer's thread title is fallacious because among migrants to Sweden there are law abiding individuals.

Tigers are maneaters. Certainly, not all tigers have eaten people, and probably some tigers will even avoid people at all costs. But it is a species that is known to stalk, attack and eat people. That is rather unique among the animal kingdom. So, in that context and when compared to the whole, saying tigers are maneaters is correct.

Migrants destroying Sweden ... (note the ellipse) is meant to be taken in context and compared to the native population. Obviously, not all migrants are "destroying" Sweden.

Uh no. Normal people understand that there are always exceptions to any generalized statement. It never means all unless they say "all"

'Germans are literal minded' doesn't mean all Germans. It is just a general observation.

'Germans are all literal minded" does mean all Germans.

So far in the UK, 117 conservative politicians have retired from politics rather than gettting embarrassingly trashed in the coming Parliamentary Election.

Your example is a generalisation pertaining to all Germans.

You really seem to be struggling with the terms generalisation/generalising

And general terms for people of a country from Wiki

Americans are citizens of the United States.[

Germans (German: Deutsche, pronounced [ˈdɔʏtʃə] ) are the natives or inhabitants of Germany, or sometimes more broadly any people who are of German descent or native speakers of the German language.

                                Finally, the term migrants

                                https://www.iom.int/who-migrant-0

An umbrella term, not defined under international law, reflecting the common lay understanding of a person who moves away from his or her place of usual residence, whether within a country or across an international border, temporarily or permanently, and for a variety of reasons. The term includes a number of well-defined legal categories of people, such as migrant workers; persons whose particular types of movements are legally-defined, such as smuggled migrants; as well as those whose status or means of movement are not specifically defined under international law, such as international students.

Note: At the international level, no universally accepted definition for “migrant” exists. The present definition was developed by IOM for its own purposes and it is not meant to imply or create any new legal category.
