Trump selling bibles

It's funny how liberals are getting bent out of shape about this, as if they ever had any respect for God's Word.

What's being sold is a King James Bible with the words "God Bless America" printed on the cover, and includes the Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Personally, I don't see the problem, or why liberals are raising a stink about it.

I for one would rather not see political documents and the like associated with Scripture.

Color me shocked you don’t see anything inherently goofy about a Trump-branded Bible with cornball Lee Greenwood God Bless the USA lyrics.

The Bible isn't Trump branded. It's branded "God Bless the USA" and includes copies of our founding documents. There's nothing inherently goofy about it.

A more accurate thread title would be "Trump is being used to sell bibles."

That said, the roguish one is not wrong to question this - not for Trump's image being used, but because it implicitly raises the USA's founding documents to the level of holy writ.

Regardless, I'm not buying one. It seems rather overpriced (the only contents still under copyright appear to be the titular anthem), I already have a copy of the documents in question (including a couple copies of the KJV, which in any case is not my go-to translation), and I'm not minded to buy anything based on Trump's say-so.

1) Trump is a notoriously corrupt (and corrupting) individual. His business association with the Bible is a sacrilege unto itself.

2) A "God Bless the USA" Bible stinks of nationalism and a kingdom at odds with itself: it's the unholy fusion of hokey patriotism and hokey religiosity.

3) As someone quipped over at Twitter, Trump selling USA-themed bibles is a Flannery O'Conner story for the modern age.

Each point ends up at a situation worthy of derision. Now there isn't a way for the Church to keep the cheats and the confidence men from using holy books as just another piece of meat to sell but it should at least try and show that it won't participate in such farces.

The real question is: what's in it for him? We know he loves money, especially other people's money. This is another way for him to alleviate his financial woes. "I'm being persecuted.
