This was actually a response to your post here. For some reason I confused the posts

My understanding is that they sorted the emails by time, sender, and recipient to arrive at only those emails between Clinton and Abedin during the time that Clinton was Secretary of State. They then used programming to eliminate duplicates that had already been reviewed previously in the investigation. Then they only had a much smaller number of 'new' emails to review manually. Not sure how many that was but it must have been a relatively small number.

My guess is they didn't try very hard to find anything new.

I don't share your cynicism. Why don't you think they did their jobs to the best of their ability?

How did you arrive at your understanding?

What are your sources of information?

This part of the Standard Operating procedures for computers dealing with comparing and sorting large amounts of data. Many search engines operate on these procedures.

Heard it on the news. Not sure who the ultimate source was.

Not arguing; really interested in why you think what you think:

                  What "news"?

sigh again you just show you know nothing about computers or legal reviews.

Shuny, you really, really should just keep quiet about things you don't know about.

I don't remember what program. I usually have NPR on in the car and MSNBC or CNN or Fox on in the background at home. The show I watch the most is Morning Joe, but it definitely was not that. On Sunday I mostly had CNN on while I was mostly avoiding finishing a report for work.

For people who are interested in the actual electronic data discovery methodology here is a good guide of the various steps involved.

I agree with this, except that I don't think there's any real doubt as to whether Comey's letter on Sunday pertained to anything but the investigation into issue of Clinton's treatment of classified material, which is what he reported to Congress in July.
