Letting murderers and child molesters go? I can't see this as anything but evil...

CA sheriff refuses to release 1,800 inmates after judge's order: 'Serious threat' to community

Orange County, Calif., Sheriff Don Barnes pushed back against an "absurd" order from a local Superior Court judge ordering the release of 1,800 inmates, including some who are locked up for murder and child molestation, due to the coronavirus.

"I have no intention of doing that, of releasing those individuals back into the community. I think they pose a serious threat," Barnes told "Fox & Friends."

    The
decision by the court was made in response to an April lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in an effort to protect disabled and medically vulnerable people at the Orange County Jail, reports said, but Barnes plans to appeal.

Well at least one Californian seems to have some sense.

They are dangers to the community. Their safety doesn't come before the safety of their potential victims.

For the sarcastically impaired the following is said in jest

Gotta make room for those who violate Herr Newsom's quarantine restrictions

The sheriffs in L.A., Riverside and San Bernardino counties are also refusing to enforce Governor Newsom's lockdown orders, instead advising citizens to use common sense and social distancing.

The order is there if anyone is interested in reading it.

Spoiler - don’t read it if you want to continue believing that the ‘left’ just want to let murderers and child molesters go.

Well of course the left wants to put us all in danger, look at Seattle or Portland where crime and property destruction is allowed to run wild. And our major cities where police budgets are being cut and crime is rising. And what was the point of your link? They are going to release criminals... Either District Attorney Todd Spitzer knows what he is talking about or he doesn't. The 'no bail' thing is already causing more crime, so don't tell me leftists have our safety in mind, THEY DON'T.

District Attorney Todd Spitzer, who is also opposed to court-ordered inmate reduction, said that the outbreak at the jails mirrors a recent surge in the county.

Orange County set new records for coronavirus cases and hospitalizations Monday, according to county health officials. More than 3,250 COVID-19 cases were reported on Monday, which brings the total number of infections to 105,764.

"Why does anybody think that what's going on in our jails is not gonna be a mirror image of what's already happening on the outside?" Spitzer said. "The numbers in the jail are not out of control or inflated as compared to what's going on outside of our jails."

The order would allow for the release of more than 1,800 inmates, which Barnes and Spitzer believe would create more crime and victimize more people. According to the station, data from the DA's office showed that low-level offenders released early or on $0 bail during the pandemic have committed crimes at nearly three times the normal rate.

"There's no doubt it would jeopardize public safety because these are some of the worst of the worst," Spitzer said.

When you have mayors telling the police to "give those who wished to destroy space to do that" and city commissions voting to abolish the police (while using tax money to hire security for themselves), public safety is the polar opposite of what they want.

Um did you read the link yourself? Because it says exactly that they want to reduce the population by 50% and there is no exceptions listed for violent offenders. If you disagree, please quote the appropriate section. This is what I found:

As reflected in a March 27, 2020 email from Erin Winger, the Deputy Agency
Director at Correctional Health Services, containing the "Recommendations for
Social Distancing in Jail," of herself and Doctor C. Hsien Chiang, the
Administrative Manager for Correctional Health Services, the recommendations to
                  Respondent included the following:
"As you are aware, social distancing is the cornerstone of reducing
transmission of COVID-19; therefore, CHS strongly recommends the Sheriffs
department to promote or enhance social distancing in all housing areas
through population management of each housing location."
"In our opinion, the ideal scenario in the jail to promote social distancing, is
that all congregate living areas reduce population by 50%. This includes all
dormitory and barracks style housing and multi-person cells."
"Reduce the population by 50% of all CJX dorms, prioritized by the size of the
housing capacity. i.e. prioritize reduction to the largest dorms followed by
                  smaller dorms."
"Reduce the population by 50% of all TL barracks prioritized by the size of
the housing capacity. i.e. prioritize reduction to the largest barracks followed
                  by smaller ones."
"Reduce population by 50% of all multi-person cells in all facilities, prioritized
by the size of the cell capacity. i.e. 8 bunk cell> 6 bunk cell> etc."
"CHS stands ready to assist in population reduction through identifying and
prioritizing individuals with the highest risk factors for complications from
                  COVID-19."

Accordingly, the Court hereby ORDERS as follows:
                  3. Respondent is Ordered to expedite the removal from the Orange
County Jail, by means of release or transfer, of the number of inmates necessary to
reduce the Orange County Jail population at least as follows: In all congregated
living areas, reduce inmate population by 50%. This includes all dormitory and
barracks style housing and multi-person cells. Specifically, reduce the population by
50% of all CJX dorms, reduce the population by 50% of all TL barracks, and reduce
the population by 50% of all multi-person cells in all facilities

                  5. Respondent is Ordered, once the appropriate reductions are achieved,
to maintain such reductions to the fullest extent necessary to continue to maintain
proper social distancing, until the current COVID-19 emergency is declared
                  terminated.

Yes the order is to reduce prison density by transfer or release but it’s the inmates that have petitioned the court for a writ of habeas corpus concerning unsafe prison conditions.

How is that then summarized as the left letting murderers and child molesters go?

It's not just the inmates that were in the petition. Those were just useful pawns for the ACLU to have a standing in the court. The decision affects the entire prison population, reducing it by 50%. There is no exception for keeping violent offenders in prison, and there is no way to get to a generalized 50% reduction without including violent offenders.

Bull, there is no Constitutional right to release because you may get sick.As District Attorney Todd Spitzer said the numbers in prison is tracking with the general population. The bottom line is that you are going to get more people killed or hurt - leftism will kill you.

Many of their rights were given up when they were convicted of their crimes. That's how they are kept in prison in the first place. There is no right to get out of prison just because you might get sick.

Do you think that someone in prison still has the right to assemble when they want (1A), keep a firearm (2A), and not be searched without probable cause (4A)? While they aren't stripped of all rights such as being able to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (1A) or be subject to cruel and unusual punishment (8A), they don't have the same rights as people not convicted of a crime and imprisoned.
