Well, I'm sick. And it's relevant to everyone. I was in the hospital in the first place because of medical malpractice (way too high a starting dose) that made me twice think I was having a heart attack. So they rushed an in-hospital Angiogram, and in being in the hospital for three days I got sepsis in my IV hook-up. Not a great recommendation for Kaiser.

I'm feeling guilty about hogging all the posts, but reflected that my "competitors" for attention are busy getting even more attention at church.

For once I agree with MM. Health Insurance will not remain insurance for long if it is wasted on operations for people too old, too sick and dying (cancer, wasting hundreds of thousands on chemotherapy).

"Health Insurance" is already no longer insurance.

And apparently you think Mitt Romney is considered some paragon of conservativism in this country. Sorry to inform you, but he's not, so I really don't give a crap if he's trying to take partial credit for Obama's disaster. It's a bit like the captain and first officer of the Titanic fighting over who gets to go down with the ship. Look, even Hillary Clinton has admitted that Obamacare is a failure!

You generally don't. Evidence just slides right off you like water off a duck's back. That was why Sam left in disgust and why I'll probably do the same shortly. Not much point in talking to them as won't listen. I came here wanting to better understand the mindset of US conservatives, and I feel like I've learned a lot on that subject by talking to people here and seeing what they say and what reasons they give, so mission accomplished really. Trying to convince anyone here of anything is not going to be an achievable goal, so why bother?

Maybe you perceived that even though I'm as like as not to agree with you about things, fundamentally I'm even more intractable because I believe what I believe on long and intense study. Maybe that worries you that you might find someone who has a strong case that you don't want to be exposed to.
I combine the worst of both--basically conservative ideology (though from a different basis), but so idiosyncratic that no one likes me.
Same thing with me as with you--I talk but no one listens. Least of all you.

With that attitude, why do you bother saying anything at all? As an INTJ, I'm going to examine your proffered evidence and push back. That doesn't mean I won't listen - it just means I won't accept what you say uncritically (and what you feel isn't going to sway me at all).

This site, currently, exists to remind me that, yes, right wing people here in the US really are advocating for insanity. That fear, fear of things too numerous to count, is a driving force that cannot be mitigated, cannot be assuaged, and cannot be reasoned with. Losses at the polls, a galvanized left, is the only recourse to the cowardice and inability to lead from our "friends across the aisle"

Sam, someone who I've gotten along with on this site for approaching a decade, someone who cared enough about spreading good cheer that he mailed me one of CS Lewis's theology/philosophy books to me while I was active duty, can't take it anymore. I lost faith only a few weeks before he did and, I suspect, that I might be part of the reason. I'm not sure if some of the people spouting breitbart level nonsense realize just how skewed this site is. I know you bemoaned my absence on a couple of posts Adam. I am, was, a good read. Refreshing. Someone good at poking fun at the lunacy. I've been called a low budget Jon Stewart by a breitbart staff writer, old navy pal works for them now so I'm sometimes called upon to give my analysis on a political issue as that's my career field. (I also have an archive of political satire at dailymongoose.com if you want a laugh) And the crazy thing is that I can sometimes, but not always, get the kinds of people who argue about politics on the Facebook wall of a breitbart author to find common ground.
