  • Making talking points more neutral -- Climate Change vs. Energy Future

Hopefully the title was self-explanatory enough, but wouldn't it be more effective to make an important issue more politically neutral?

Climate change -- focusing on ANTHROPOGENIC climate change -- has to be addressed.

Now how about addressing the issues that CAN AFFECT climate change?

The two biggest issues are fossil fuel use and deforestation. Fossil fuel use can only be addressed with extreme ramping up of alternative energies.

So why don't push the rhetoric towards alternative energies?

And EXPLAIN why this is necessary and important -- for EVERYONE, not just liberals...

The upshot -- emphasize an issue which should be obvious to all, and not "abstract".

I believe at this point the emphasis on alternate energies, conservation of energy use, population controls, and alternate materials from wood and plastics, are essential for the human future regardless of the cause of global warming (climate change).

I believe the increasing development of the third world countries, and the limited availability of alternative energies in these countries makes the chances of reversing the human effects of climate change in the 'not likely' category.

There is also the problem increasing desertification in the agricultural regions of the world that has been going on for ~10,000+ years. This may be increased by human influence, but the relationship is not clear. This problem decreases the yield of many regions and increases the energy needed to produce food. It also forces agricultural production in marginal land. The increasing population further exacerbates the problem.

The combative nature of denialists of climate change only compounds the materialist demands on the environment and the earth's resources, and handicaps the potential of human efforts to deal with the problems.
