Nope. Rather (as far as I can tell), he doesn't want them to remain as wealthy.

Sure they did, but when somebody became 'too powerful' they murdered them or are you unaware of Stalin's tendency to kill everybody that was even a slight challenge to his rule? You might want to try grabbing some history books and actually reading on how things worked, in these nations, before you decided to jump into a conversation you clearly know nothing about. Might make you look a wee bit smarter, if you think before you speak.

To his credit Sparko admits that there exist other socialist countries not in this list like Sweden and Denmark. But it appears that you can only cherrypick...
You never heard of democratic socialism? Oh my...

Oh, look, an improvement: you admit that it possible to 'blend' it with other policies. Great. Now guess what. Neither Starlight nor myself advocate pure socialism as the Communists conceived it.

You are aware that I have said, months before, the same thing, eh? Of course your not, but the funny thing is, to make your dreams of 'equality' work... what does it require? Oh yeah... an ever expanding government that slowly encroaches further and further upon your life. While it doesn't seem to create the mass genocides that pure socialism does, what are you going to do if people end up resisting your plans to take their stuff from them?

And the absolute monarchies didn't have mechanisms to get rid of dangerous underlings?

You never heard of democratic socialism? Oh my...
Congratulations. There exist compromises and blends, both actual and proposed. But carry on harping about pure socialism and all the dictators.

I, for one, don't have such dreams of 'equality'. Can you only construct strawmen, little one?

Which means you can't answer the question. Name one socialist country where everyone is equally rich and not equally poor. And by "rich" I am not talking millionaires, but making enough money so that all of their needs and wants are taken care of.

Instead what happens is that everyone ends up being at the poor end of the scale, scrounging for food, not having any luxuries, or choice in products. East Germany, when reunited with West Germany was a horrific burden to the West Germans (and still are to some extent) - because they had 3 and 4 people doing a job where it required only one. They lived in terrible ghettos, and had poor health and outrageous pollution of their water and air. Just trying to get them up the the standards of the west was an incredible job. What to do with all of those extra workers who were not needed? Most were unskilled, and didn't care about working for a living. It was just something they sat around all day at, and took home a minimum pay check.

The whole point he is making is that those at the min wage end should be just moved into the middle class without merit or skill. All paid for by taking away money from those who do have merit and skill and worked hard for their money and businesses. That doesn't work. It never has worked, and it never will work.

And did these 'absolute monarchies' end up killing off their competition, at nearly the rates that their socialist rivals did (and some still do)? Stalin killed anybody and everybody that could even be remotely seen as a rival (in fact, his purges of the army, were a major factor with the Red Army taking the losses it took during WWII). You are aware of those pesky fact things, right? While the monarchies (this is including constitutional monarchies too) could be quite paranoid and murdered rivals too. Communist seemed to have taken it to new levels that make Queen Isabella's worst things, look small.

Congratulations. There exist compromises and blends, both actual and proposed. But carry on harping about pure socialism and all the dictators.

Never aruged otherwise, but too bad the person you are mindless defending IS talking about pure socialism, eh? Did you even READ the post before you opened your fat mouth or did you see a fight going on and wanted to be in the center of it because you like arguing for the sake of arguing and could care less about what side you're defending?

Than why are you jumping to the rescue, of somebody who is arguing for the dreams of equality? Do you even know what you're arguing about, twit, or did you just want to jump into yet another fight, just because you wanted to fight for the sake of fighting? Keep digging papster and proving that you like fighting just for the sake of fighting, yet again.

He doesn't know what he is arguing for or against and could care less. He saw an argument going on and wanted to be the center of it and thus decided to start a fight (yet again).

Yeah I get that impression too. He is not worth bothering with any more.

                • The whole notion of socialism reminds me of this quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

"Many men, of course, became extremely rich. But this was perfectly natural and nothing to be ashamed of, because no one was really poor - at least no one worth speaking of."
Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd
But I'd rather be a fool in the eyes of man
Than a fool in the eyes of God

                    Numbers I used:
                    US dollars

Net income: $7.25/hour * (40/hrs per week * 52 Weeks) - 15% for taxes (used IRS tax brackets) = $12,818 (that doesn't include any tax breaks or deductions)

So, how well are all those socialist countries doing again, Starlight?
I already showed that, awhile ago. He just ignored it because it didn't play into his fantasy land.

That's not moving the goalposts, that's declining to answer an irrelevant question: neither of us have claimed that everyone should be equally rich.
