My experience is that immigrants overall are pretty happy to be here and have few complaints (in all honesty, the worst immigrants I've met were Russians, but that's a different topic).

Yup! Same.

My experience is similar. But I would translate it more as having a "chip on one's shoulder." That seems to be a dominant "social construct."

And it's almost immediately evident in their countenance.
