As I noted, this appears to provide an indication that he's alive but is moot to what condition he's in. It would seem that he's likely lucid since otherwise I doubt he'd want his yachts nearby.

Unless you're happy with a life span measured in days, gathering up his toys would be way, way down on the list of priorities. You'd be focused on consolidating power, shoring up allegiances and trying to counter any actions taken by any potential rivals -- and even moving to find ways to eliminate them.


In the old days seizing the former rulers harem was considered important as a sign of being in charge but I just don't think that a communist regime would place a high value on who had what are in effect capitalist trappings.

I don't think it's necessarily him who "wants his yachts (who decided on the spelling of that word! ) nearby --- I think it could well be the architects of a coup*, or his close family / bodyguards, etc.

(*I remember when CNN was covering the ongoing coup attempt by Russian forces (1991?) against the Kremlin, and CNN seemed enamored with the phrase "coup-plotters". )

The one in control of the most powerful portion of the military and key parts of the infrastructure (the railways -- not a particular luxury train; the navy -- not a handful of yachts) are among the things that matters, and anyone with even the slightest desire to come out on top fully understands that.

Trump also made a statement the other day that said he had an idea of how Kim was doing but couldn't say, and that he wished him well. So that suggests he doesn't think he's dead.
