    Could be I got lucky.

    Oh, and no crowds, either.

      • Cause everything looks like a math problem to me.
Population * Exposure rate * Contagion rate * Hospitalization rate = Excess beds

The US population is 330 million.

If, at any one time ...
10% of the population is exposed - 33,000,000
10% of the exposed population becomes infected - 3,300,000
10% of the infected population requires hospitalization - 330,000

330,000 extra beds will be needed

According to the American Hospital Association, in 2018, there were 924,107 staffed hospital beds in the US.

        Keeping social distances is important.

        Stay safe, y'all.

I've heard reports from friends and relatives that some stores are out.

I was at a Family Dollar, and their supply seemed fine.

I have enough for a couple of months because I bought a bunch when I had a coupon, with no anticipation of being holed up because of Kung Flu.

                          • Just finished an Orientation Session, a live show for any of my students who wanted to show up during their break and try out the connection tool I've enabled on Blackboard: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.

It was dropping audio and video, especially with students on mobile devices this morning, but okay overall. They're going to have to scale up their bandwidth quickly to handle the increased loads they're expecting:
A special note from Product Management on COVID-19: The team has been taking several pre-emptive infrastructure measures to help prepare for significantly increased traffic as a growing number of schools move to fully online courses. We will continue to monitor closely and take any additional steps required to provide a seamless service.

Perversely, I found this less than reassuring.

                            First faculty meeting is Wednesday.

And just that fast, it's not happening. Five minutes ago, from our interim president.
As a result, effective Tuesday, March 17 ... will cease all on campus services as we transition to a primarily remote work environment.

Um, no. There is a big difference between primaries and the general election.
