We have been doubling every 2-3 days for the last 18 days. 18 days ago there were 158 known cases in the U.S.

And still our testing lags behind many other countries. I suspect almost 25,000 cases is just the tip of a very large iceberg we cannot see. And some cities (e.g., LA) are taking the emphasis off testing partly due to lack of test kits. They are limiting testing to cases where it will have a critical diagnostic impact on treatment. I presume that means cases where assuming Covid-19 might compromise the patient.

I fear we are in for a very rough ride.

Only in hindsight was that clear, as you yourself admit. Again you're weaseling, the CDC couldn't stop it, and thankfully things were still relatively fine.

He shouldn't have lied, constantly either about what the government was doing. And if it wasn't enough, since he knew it was going to be a pandemic early (he later claimed) declared a national health emergency at the very least - Obama did one month into the Flu epidemic.
Oh I'm right there with you, Zara. This travesty of a human being is screwing up royally and regularly, and people are dying (in part) as a result. Beat the drum and get the vote out on 11/3 and perhaps we can send him packing with a resounding outcome!

        • The CDC back in Obama's day didn't have sufficient masks or hospital beds or ICU beds or negative pressure rooms or medical staff to deal with an actual pandemic-level threat. This is the same throughout the whole world. The 'special task force for Ebola' and other nonsense started in Obama's day didn't fix this despite being there for 3-4 years.

People simply need to accept that all governments have not prepared well for deadly pandemics that could be reasonably expected to happen from time to time. None of the CDCs across the world are prepared. No country is prepared.

                    • The problem is compounded by the fact that over 81% of those with the virus showed little or no symptoms.

                      • I am 90% certain I've had it and recovered. I couldn't get anyone to test me for it, but I had matching symptoms for about 10 days (dry cough and fever mainly and throughout, aches chills and exhaustion for the early days, no appetite and almost no sense of smell or taste).

It was like a flu except for the persistent dry cough and a really annoying throat tickle that kept me awake nights. No shortness of breath, though.

Did you feel something strange in your lungs?

A couple of people I recently read about said they had flu like symptoms but could still function and do normal activities. But then they started complaining about something weird happening in their lungs before they died.

                            • I'm actually wondering if there are two strains, one more deadlier than the other. Of course, I know absolutely nothing about this subject, so basically I pulled that out of my behind.

                              • Apparently Italy has a very loose policy regarding cause of death. It seems that if a person had the Chinese virus and died, then that's put on the death certificate as the cause of death regardless of whether or not it was the actual cause.

"On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 percent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 percent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three," [said an adviser to Italy's minister of health, Professor Walter Ricciardi].
