Trump And Bernie...

The only wave Bernie is riding is the one being created by a bunch of young adults who spent their lives being coddled and given everything they wanted. They are most likely still living with their parents and playing on their phones instead of working. They have no idea what paying taxes is like, and they just want more free stuff.

People can say that Sanders' extremism could be a turnoff, but how many of his ideas can he actually enact? If the Republicans control either House or Senate, then all of his ideas go out the window. Even if the Democrats take both, I don't think we'll see anything much more extreme than a more moderate Democrat would enact, because the more moderate Senate Democrats would hold back on anything too extreme.
That was my thought with Trump, that his more crazy-sounding ideas wouldn't get implemented because of the difficulty of getting them past the Senate, even a Republican-controlled one. And it was mostly true! How well did that attempt to repeal the ACA go? Or the wall? Never got past the Senate. He got his travel ban, but even that was accomplished only due to a law already in place so he didn't need to get congress's approval to do it. The biggest accomplishment Trump had was the tax cut, which you could've seen any of the 2016 Republican candidates for president implement if they were elected.

The Trump v Bernie polling in the individual swing states shows Bernie would win most swing states (enough to win the Presidency).
Obviously Trump still has a chance, but from the current data he doesn't look likely to win against Bernie."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

I hope Sanders doesn't win, but like you said Trump won against all odds, so we can't depend on odds in this case.
