In the case of a House inquiry, any committee that wishes to do the same must secure the approval of the House with a majority vote. This is why the Trump administration is right to ignore the House's "demand letters" because they are legally worthless even though Democrats are falsely calling them subpoenas.
Wrong again. The House, once again, makes its own rules and they have no obligation to secure approval of the House with a majority vote.
The thing is, the Democrats have the numerical advantage and could make it all official today if they wanted, so why won't they? What are they afraid of?
I'll tell you why. For one thing, what the democrats are afraid of, and rightly so, is that they know that the only purpose of the republicans, unethical as they have shown themselves to be, is to muck things up, and for another, and even more importantly, they don't want witnesses to know the testimony of other witnesses before testifying themselves. You can probably figure out why that's important for yourself..

In order to do more than issue legally impotent "demand letters" they do. None of the House committees have any authorization to issue subpoenas, and they won't until the House grants them authorization with a majority vote.

Ah, so you swallowed that line of bull from Shifty Adam Schiff, did you?

Except there are consequences if a witness is caught lying under oath. The real reason the Democrats are so adamant about keeping the proceedings secret is because the evidence is not favorable to their narrative.

Rules made without that vote AREN'T binding on the House and therefore aren't House rules. That the minority can't force the issue doesn't make the rules any less Democrat partisanship.

Hiding behind closed doors only makes this coup attempt all the more blatant.

I'm going to continue to say that this is a wrong interpretation for several reasons but can we all agree there's an impending court decision involving this very issue and that will more or less resolve the question?

No. Because you're wrong (seriously, new point and you mistake it for an old one - do you even read this stuff?) and I'm tired of this P/A crap.

Wasn't talking to you anyway, Nosy.

I read the exchange: the point of contention is whether subpoenas in pursuit of an impeachment inquiry have legal force without a full House vote. As far as I can tell, that's the same contention discussed earlier, with the same arguments being used to support it.

I don't know what P/A stands for, unfortunately.

But, just to be clear: this is one of those opinions formed without legal expertise that can't be wrong, even if a judge rules on the merits?

                        • In other news, the Democrats are now saying, "Well... there doesn't actually have to be quid pro quo for us to impeach the President..."

Seems to me that's essentially their way of admitting that they don't have the evidence to support their accusations.

Don’t worry; Trump crimed on National TV. I’m sorry you missed it.

We see now that the plot to strong-arm Ukraine, is much larger than one phone call.

Before things get too hot, and before the lawmakers see his tax returns, my bet is that Trump will resign, with an immunity granted by Mike Pence.

If you could get your head out of the propaganda bubble once in a while, you'd know that the democrats have been saying that from the get go. Not because there was no quid pro quo, there was, but just in response to republicans who, being purposely blind to it, and ignorant to its not being necessary, complain that there was none.
