I don't think Trump is racist. I think he is an ass, but an equal opportunity ass. He will insult anyone regardless of race, colour creed or gender.

The problem is that the media takes his insults of people who aren't white males to mean that he's racist/a homophobe/a ________phobe etc.
They also do the same with his sometimes very legitimate criticism.

Well, the problem there, JimmySue, is that there's actually solid evidence of you defending NAMBLA, and ZERO evidence that I have anything to do with communism or Russia or Putin... But facts don't matter to you, so...

It looks and sounds like Trump is going to give into the pressure of new gun legislation. Being how narcissistic and wishy-washy he is, I had a sneaky suspicion that was coming.

The NRA will give him some money, and the killing will go on.

The conservative National Review came out with an editorial about white supremacist violence, and indeed, Trump mentioned it in its speech.

Conservatives rightly hammered Obama for his refusal to condemn Islamic terrorism. However, right now, there have been enough incidents that a pattern has emerged (the attempted Somali apartment attack in Kansas, Dylann Roof in South Carolina, this, Charlottesville, the shooter who cited Calvinism a few weeks ago, though I don't remember the details, the guy who shot up a bar in my hometown hunting for non-white people two years ago) and there are common fingerprints on the dark corners of the Internet, so I give Trump credit for calling a spade a spade. If there had been this many jihadists shooting people, I would hope the connection would be drawn as well.

This matters not to score points in the social justice wars, but because Christians need to combat the message where it comes up, and because people, especially parents of teenagers going the wrong way, need to recognize warning signs of radicalization and get their family members help.

Trump is a target of the media because Trump is the worst bully to occupy the white house in my life time. His mockery and belittling of sessions, his constant attacks on people of color, his implicit support of white supremacists, his attacks on women - up to and including sexual assault - these are just the tip of the iceberg. The list is very, very long. He is the role model for bullies of all stripes and colors, and makes clear that being a bully, demeaning people, mocking others, hating people, can get you far in life. He has given a green light to hatred on all sides, he's even sucked many of the followers of the Prince of Peace into his hate fill and bitter room. chaos is what he lives for, the pond of scum in which he swims and grows.

And he is rightly criticized for it on a daily basis.

Not trying to take this as an opportunity to bash Trump, but I don't think it's that controversial that he muffed his response to the Charlottesville shooting awhile back. Nothing to do with the debate over what was meant by "good people on both sides", but he missed a chance to turn that into a uniting moment. So he could have handled it better in the past, but that can't be changed now. His response in this case was much better, and I don't see the point in focusing on two years ago in analyzing it. Honestly, I think he and his presidency are way too divisive at this point in time to create any sort of "uniting moment", but he's saying the right things now.

That doesn't surprise me at all being that most of the mass shooters in the last two decades have either had some form of mental therapy evaluation or been on some form of prescribed drug for mental issues, or both.

He's even suggesting he's going to tie it to immigration reform. This is like putting his supporters in a box to where, if they want immigration reform, they have to accept more gun laws.

It's sort of a self selecting bias in a way, because medicated or unmedicated, normal people don't go around shooting strangers.
