In general, no, but if your unpopular belief makes it so that you cannot be trusted to do your job? Yes. Additionally, we shouldn't hire JW's to do blood transfusions, Muslims to ring up alcohol sales, atheists to teach in Christian schools, and white supremacists to serve and protect.

In this case though, the technicality looks like a violation of department policy rather than belief.

2) It might not be a bad idea, as they might be less likely to steal the alcohol or give it to their friends.

Reminds me of the time my firm was defending a vodka distiller from charges of trademark infringement. The product samples were kept locked in a Mormon lawyer's office.

I used to live in Virginia many, many years ago. There are a surprising number of people who think that General Lee should have never surrendered. There was even a popular book that made its rounds titled something like "The South Was Right" and made the case for secession.
