"We will be correcting or retracting all of the affected stories in order to set the record straight to the best of our ability."
She went on to say, "And those corrections will be quietly released at the bottom of the classified page where our readers will be sure to overlook them."Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd
But I'd rather be a fool in the eyes of man
Than a fool in the eyes of God

On the one hand it's important for news outlets to be able to get stories from undercover sources and so reveal news that people in power don't necessarily want to be revealed in order to report to the public what is really happened in the world as opposed to just the official line on what is happened, and it's important those sources are protected from public disclosure.
On the other hand it's important for the news outlet itself to have solid internal mechanisms for ensuring individual journalists aren't just totally making up said sources. That's usually what typically distinguishes the more reliable publications from the less reliable ones. So it's good to see this newspaper announcing they've spotted problems and are moving to correct them."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

Reminds me of Jayson Blair with the New York Times awhile back.
It's good that the newspaper was forthcoming about what happened instead of hiding it."I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. I am angry when the same men who say, "Save OUR children" bellow "Build more and bigger bombers." That's right! Blast the children in other nations into eternity, or limbless misery as they lay crippled from "OUR" bombers! This does not jell." - Leonard Ravenhill

It really makes one wonder how much of this stuff is going on elsewhere, as this is not the first example of this. It wasn't the newspaper itself that caught the errors - it was questions from readers challenging the stories.

Again - fake news is wrong from ANY source. The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

There are lazy people in any profession who try to get by. We've all worked with them. If this were a liberal reporter, I'm sure some people here would be making it about that, but they shouldn't do that either. This is a pure case of laziness."I am not angered that the Moral Majority boys campaign against abortion. This reporters reporting days are also likely over excepting some fly by night tabloid.
JimMy brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. James 2:1
If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless James 1:26
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; James 1:19
