Interestingly though, if you actually read the court transcript, there was alleged to be one whole vote disqualified for being cast by a non-citizen. The judge comments that that's the "First one of these [vote disqualified for not being a citizen] we've seen." What happened MM to you pushing Trump's gigantic lie that millions and millions of non-citizens voted illegally?
On the topic of non-citizens voting, my own country allows it (they simply have to be permanent residents here, they don't have to be citizens) and I'm a bit on the fence as to whether that's a good policy or not myself."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

Possibly you need to explain to Republican posters here how mail-in ballots and absentee ballots work, with small words. Military members have to mail in their ballots if they are out of their state, so you can probably leverage the cancerously oversized love-of-military parts of their brains to help them understand."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

What eventually got revealed was that the Republicans hadn't known in advance of Ford's accusations, they'd known about one of the other women who had contacted both Republicans and Democrats on the committee earlier in the year with her own accusations. So Republicans had many months' warning they might need to play defense on Kavanaugh's interactions with women. Part of that strategy turned out to be having the female sports team he coached sitting behind him, part turned out to be a group of women organized and ready to say how great he was toward women at the drop of a hat and write/sign any letter to that effect. My repetition of other media commentators' observation that the speed with which the letter was produced indicated someone had known about possible accusations beforehand and established a way to produce a speedy response on the subject, turned out to be 100% correct. Republican operatives had indeed known of possible accusations of impropriety toward women appearing and had established a mechanism for a rapid response on that subject as well as preemptive defense.
Originally posted by Terraceth View PostAnd you say this based on... uh, what, exactly? While I've seen others, like you, make the claim that the woman were found ahead of time and the letter pre-written, as far as I can tell this is entirely speculative. The only rationale is apparently the presumption that it's somehow implausible they could have seen and responded to the news this quickly, which has two problems with it. First, in our day of instant communication, it's silly to believe that people couldn't get put this together in short order. Second, some of these women have stated that they put the letter together by themselves after hearing the accusations and then forwarded it, which goes completely against the hypothesis that they were found by Chuck Grassley beforehand.

Terraceth, I don't really understand your obsession with defending rapist Kavanaugh, but I'm beyond caring at this point. Go away and stop embarrassing yourself with your random demands for me to do things for you."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

I'll admit, it was a bit uncouth of me to dredge up something from a while ago in a topic only tangentially related to it. But the fact you so baldly asserted something as a fact when it is (as far as I can tell) nothing more than a baseless speculation always bothered me.Last edited by Terraceth; 11-11-2018, 01:34 AM.

Granted, I usually do try to be 100% accurate and evidence focused. But occasionally I am lazy and don't have links to hand or can't really be bothered typing out the logic of the arguments in full so just post the conclusions or repeat what I found convincing from various media commentators.
It'd be one thing if you stated it as a speculation, but you stated it as definite fact
Or was this just a speculation based on nothing other than the assumption that in our era of instant communication, people who knew each other in the past somehow couldn't quickly communicate and put out such a letter?

They arbitrarily changed vote-counting criteria after the election in order to suppress the vote. The problem was so bad that according to an Associated Press report at the time "Orange County, for example, rejected 117 of its 147 overseas ballots. In Hillsborough County, 74 of the 135 ballots were rejected after Democrats raised concerns about postmark or signature problems."
What they were doing was so blatant it even caused some Democrats to recoil and even Gore's VP pick, Senator Joseph Lieberman, felt it necessary to step forward and demand that election officials should give the ''benefit of the doubt'' to military voters.
And speaking of Florida, the MSM (now a branch of the Democratic Party in all but name only), called Gore the winner there causing many voters in the panhandle, where the polls were still open and a Republican stronghold, to turn around and go home without voting.
Moreover, nine years later, a Senate Rules Committee study revealed that roughly a quarter of overseas military voters (who vote overwhelmingly Republican) who requested absentee ballots did not have their votes counted in the 2008 election because they never received their ballots causing Congress to approve the Military and Overseas Voting Empowerment (MOVE) Act requiring that states send absentee ballots to overseas military personnel at least 45 days before the election so that time in transit will no longer be an issue.
1. This would ring incredibly hollow in 2016 as the Democrat's primaries were rigged to ensure a Clinton victory regardless of how anyone voted.
2. Those in combat zones, on ships at sea... don't have the U.S. mail picking up their ballots so there wouldn't be a postmark.
