That was a pleasant surprise, but it REALLY got in the craw of the liberals.

Or a baseball team whining that they got more hits. Or a soccer team grumbling they had more shots on goal. None of those determines the winner.

Only in this rigged process is it pointless. The electoral college is outdated and ridiculous, and republican gerrymandering and voter suppression is unconstitutional. But, republicans have learned that this kind of cheating is the only way they can win. 3 out of the last 4 democrats won the popular vote and yet we've ended up with disastrous republican administrations. We even ended up with Putins fav in the White House. Amazing!

EGGzackly. Both sides know what the object of the game is before they start - and if they don't, it's to their own peril.

In this case, both sides did, and worked toward that. This is no more than post hoc sour grapes, producing copious quantities of whine.

Even the media breathlessly reports on which states will go to which side, and the "battleground states", etc.... everything is in terms of electoral college votes, so, yeah..... until that changes, it would be wise for both sides to focus on the states they can win.

And the losers can whine and cry and pitch fits all they want.

how is following the law "cheating?" you ditz?

Both sides knew the rules and campaigned accordingly. If it happened the other way you would be fine with the electoral college.

The point of the electoral college is to allow less populated states to have a say in the election instead of just New York and California leading the entire country by the nose. This is the UNITED STATES of America. The States are who elect the president, not the number of people living in a state.

I think it would be much more fair to go by COUNTIES!

Both sides didn't follow the law you ditz. The courts have struck down the gerrymandering and voter suppression carried out by republicans time and time again as being unconstitutional including that done in the 2016 election. Ooops, too late! The electoral college is outdated, just as is the fact that, lets say, N. Dakota gets the same amount of Senators (2) as does California. That is ridiculous beyond belief. If there was equal representation in this country, republicans wouldn't have control of the Senate for sure, and probably not the House or the Presidency either, and we wouldn't be run by a bunch of plutocrats and their puppets.

You are so clueless. Gerrymandering goes on by both sides. It doesn't affect the electoral votes. The number of senators is two per state so each state has equal representation in congress. The number of representatives in congress are chosen by population per state, that gives the people equal representation in congress. And the number of electoral votes in each state is based on population. So a more populous state like California still has more votes than N. Dakota.
