Not that it matters. As I said, the US has higher oil production than Denmark. If the US oil industry doesn't contribute money to a social welfare system, it's not due to a lack of revenue. The Danish government puts oil revenue towards a welfare state. If the US government doesn't, and the result is that the US is not as well off regarding work force involvement, life expectancy and level of education, the US only has itself to blame.Last edited by Roy; 09-26-2018, 08:31 AM.Jorge: Functional Complex Information is INFORMATION that is complex and functional.

Denmark has much of its oil industry nationalized to pay for its welfare state. The second problem with your claim is there is no way nationalizing the US oil industry would pay for a large US welfare state.Jorge: Functional Complex Information is INFORMATION that is complex and functional.

I mean, maybe the US does produce a lot more oil per capita. But I'd like clarification if you're referring to total production or per capita production.

The total tax intake in Denmark is 46% of GDP while in the US it's only 26%. That's where the difference lies. It's obviously not necessary to have as advanced a welfare system as Denmark does, and the US could more easily move toward the middle ground occupied by the UK, Canada and NZ which tax at ~32% of GDP."I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump

It's like how China has the second highest GDP in the world but is around 71st in the world in GDP per capita--population matters a lot here.

I think you're getting unnecessarily detailed on this, as it is not necessary to have any oil production at all to run a good welfare state, only a willingness to levy taxes.
