It's interesting to me that the liberals have to overlook the failure of our public schools because they'd have to admit they themselves have failed. And their other 'god' - Unions - are largely to blame.

And that was in response to a question regarding the "teaching" of sex ed.

I disputed that by showing that our public schools are doing a really bad job compared with other advanced nations.
If the schools can't even properly teach the basics, why should we trust them handling anything else.
Exactly, you changed the subject from teaching sex ed, to "teaching in general."

Their primary job is to teach the Three R's - they need to work on getting that right before screwing up anything else.
Their primary job is to teach whatever it is we want them to teach, and how well of a job they do at it is a totally different question.
It looks to me that you just can't admit to the fact that you have a problem with kids learning about sex ed in schools.

Yes, because they fail at teaching the basics. Until they can get that right...

And you get to define what is basic? Like I said, the great majority of parents disagree with you.

It is their parents job to teach them about sex, JimL, not the government.

If they don't want to teach their children about sex then they should live with their kids getting into trouble. Since when is it the government's job to raise your kids?

Since we are the government we get to decide if teaching sex ed in the schools is appropriate or not and most parents agree that it is good and advantageous for our kids to do so.

People have rights and the government can't just take them away. The right to raise your own kids as long as you don't abuse them is one of those rights. The government has no business teaching sex education just like it doesn't have any business teaching religion. You wouldn't be happy if "we the government" decided that teaching religion in school was appropriate, would you?

So what you're saying is that the government has no business teaching history, math, reading, science etc etc, or are you just singling out sex ed?
