I would have thought that "thinking" is the last thing you need when indoctrinating a child into the arcane mysteries of religion.

That's how you end up with children who deconvert when they grow up. Contrary to what you want to believe, I have thought hard and deeply about my faith - and so have many of the Christians who debate here.

Nope. Thinking is the best thing you can do when investigating truth claims. The problem are those Christians who don't develop their critical thinking skills and panic when they encounter their first contrary idea leading to an emotional (not intellectual) crisis and abandonment of a worldview they never really understood.
