It appears the door is under camera surveillance. Perhaps there are photos or video of weeks or months ago that can be accessed.

There is no reason they couldn't disable the alarm and prop the door open.

If that never happens, then I'm sure someone will be along to say so.

Not only that, there is an automated high speed tram in the tunnel that allows them to cover the distance much faster than walking.

There's no reason to believe that has been the case (nor should the onus be on others to disprove the assertion), other than desperate retarded grasping by kultists like yourself who are little more than Democrat versions of Trumpsters.

And again as has been noted by numerous posters, there are literally freaking tunnels between the buildings.

          • Oh, how fun it looks like he and his office sent an 'internal' memo around to his fellow Democrats, asking for their help to defend him, and declaring those criticizing him as "Nazis".

Bowman camp slams 'Nazi' Republicans after fire alarm flap

Rep. Jamaal Bowman is circulating a list of talking points to fellow Democrats in a bid to stop the burgeoning GOP push to punish him after he set off a House fire alarm during Saturday's chaotic spending votes.

The New York Democrat's press secretary sent a memo on Monday afternoon to all House Democratic offices requesting that they defend Bowman for the flap over the alarm, which has prompted a Republican push to sanction him. A copy of the office's communique was obtained by POLITICO.

One suggested response from Bowman’s office to questions about the incident: “I believe Congressman Bowman when he says this was an accident. Republicans need to instead focus their energy on the Nazi members of their party before anything else.”

Bowman is calling fellow Democrats to say he didn't actually approve the statement, according to one person familiar with the conversations.

Republicans have vowed to punish the progressive in the wake of the incident, with Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) introducing a resolution Monday to expel Bowman from the House. The measure has no chance of passage, given it would require a two-thirds majority and, therefore, a significant number of Democratic votes.

“We’ve dropped the resolution with twelve cosponsors, and we will continue to add more throughout the day. Mr. Bowman’s juvenile actions violated both federal and local law and he must be held accountable," Malliotakis said in a statement.

Other House Republicans are considering their own measures, including Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), whose office told POLITICO she is working on a censure resolution.

Bowman's memo includes other suggested responses for Democratic members to use and tweets to post in defense of Bowman, and underscored the progressive's Saturday statement that claimed he “didn’t mean to cause confusion” when he pulled the fire alarm.

“I was just trying to get to my vote. The door thatʼs usually open wasnʼt open. I didnʼt mean to cause confusion. I didnʼt know it was going to trip the whole building. I thought [the alarm] would help me open the door,” Bowman said Saturday.

Capitol Police have opened their own investigation into the incident. The department released a statement later Monday saying “a man” was seen trying to exit a door in the Cannon House Office Building and then pulled a fire alarm.

“USCP officers had previously placed signs with clear language that explained the door was secured and marked as an emergency exit only,” the department said.

We never got to go down below to the little subway system between the buildings. Don't know if security was stricter 50+ years ago or they just didn't want to set loose 90 some kids down there.

Reportedly, not all of the tunnels have a tram. Specifically, not that one.

Interesting. Reportedly he escaped through an exit on a different level in the building, so it's likely that after setting off the alarm, he made his getaway through the tunnel.

It was just my family. We picked up tickets from our senator's office to enter the galleries in the House and Senate chambers, and the aide took us down to the tunnels to let us ride the subway, which was a really cool experience. It actually wasn't my first time as two decades earlier, I had been in those same tunnels with a video camera on my shoulder shooting a news story about my state's newly elected congressmen on his first day in Washington.

The building is undergoing decade-long major renovations.

In January 2015, a top-to-bottom renovation of the Cannon House Office Building began. Completion is expected to take ten years and cost $752.7 million. Initially, renovation will be focused on upgrading the building utilities, but will progress on to a wing-by-wing exterior and interior reconstruction. According to Bill Weidemeyer (Superintendent of the House), the building "is plagued by safety, health, environmental and operational issues that are rapidly worsening. Many of the building’s systems are original from the 1908 construction."

As has been noted, that emergency exit did not function in the way most people expect emergency exits to function, and its signage just sitting on the door bars was very weird.

It was made even more weird when it was removed, most likely by Bowman himself. But, the instructions on those signs were pretty durn clear to anybody but a moron.

Fact is - it was CLEARLY an EMERGENCY ONLY exit when Bowman encountered it. The extent to which you guys defend this guy is amusing.
