Actually we could have, we had the bomb by 45. A few years before Germany would have gotten it. That would have been game, set and match.

What will hurt is competing with countries like China with near zero environmental regulations, no worker rights, and very low worker pay.

Not only did Britain bear the brunt of the war against Nazism, which nearly broke it financially, the Lend Lease programme demanded payment in full even though an isolated USA in a German/Japanese dominated world would have not survived for long. But instead of absolving the debt of the Anglo-American Loan Agreement, in the interest of both nations, the UK had to keep paying until the debt was fully repaid in 2006. Some would call this profiteering from war.

That all is only just happening Tass, and will take years to really have an effect. And that does not change the fact that there are no worker rights in China and very low pay. That may change in the future but for now that will make it difficult for any western nation to compete. Second, your whole argument is still stupid - we don't have to be part of an international agreement to cut our emissions (we are already doing that, quite effectively) nor do we need to be in such an agreement to be a leader in green energy development. If there is a market our businesses will compete - it is called capitalism. A non-binding agreement changes nothing.

Oh give me a break, my point still stands. Neither Britain nor Russian would have survive the early part of the war without our "Arsenal of Democracy" and never mind the fact that we freed Eastern Europe form Communism and kept the Russian Bear from taking all of Europe. And we would have survived just fine, Germany was four to five years behind us with the A bomb. The US itself would have never been attacked.
