Disney Has Lost Nearly $1 Billion on “Woke” Movies

The Walt Disney Company lost almost $1 Billion on its recent releases of ‘woke’ movies, according to Hollywood analysis.

Disney suffered losses nearing $900 million on its last eight studio releases, according to box office analyst Valliant Renegade.

The staggering losses come amid growing public backlash as the company is accused of using LGBTQ to “indoctrinate” children.

Those financial impact which lost the Disney millions came following the release of these woke movies:
    • “Lightyear”
    • “Thor: Love and Thunder”
    • “Strange World”
    • “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
    • “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”
    • “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
    • “The Little Mermaid”
    • “The Little Mermaid”
The eight movies cost $2.75 billion but only brought in $1.86 billion for Disney – a staggering $890 million loss.

“Strange World” lost $197 million, and “Lightyear” lost $106 million, according to Deadline.

Recent Disney movies have embraced “woke” storylines, which have not been received well by audiences.

“Strange World” featured a gay romance.

The animated children’s “Lightyear” has a lesbian kiss in it.

“Elemental” talks about the evils of xenophobia and boasts Disney’s first non-binary character.

“One of the things that we always talk about here, that is the perfect time to remind everybody, is that Disney consumes all of its own content post-theatrical,” Valliant Renegade stated.

“Meaning that Disney that used to license their big content out like the entire MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe] to places like Netflix for years, those were billions of dollars’ worth of third-party contracts that have now been taken off the table.”

“So not only do we need to consider how much money Disney has lost at the box office, we also need to consider how much money Disney has lost in economic-opportunity costs,” the Hollywood analyst said in a YouTube video.

“You see, that’s how much money they could have made had they actually taken these films and licensed them to Netflix, or Amazon Prime, or even similar to what Universal does with a split Pay 1 window.”

Disney is the parent company of ABC13 - Houston News channel - and it seems every other commercial is a promo of gay pride or gay something.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

That "Little Mermaid" is cited twice in this "article" shows how much care and thought was put into its writing and conception.

And as usual, "they" won't (and can't) define what "woke" even is to save their lives.

Oh dear, decided to use the neckbeard youtuber (hint: he's not a "box office analyst") with a vendetta against Disney as your source like your buddy MM?

It lists various movies as being "woke" movies. While for some it at least offers an explanation as to why, for others it does not; specifically, it does not explain how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, or The Little Mermaid are "woke movies". Granted, I haven't seen them, so maybe they are, but it's odd no explanation is offered as to how these qualify, and some I had never even heard that criticism aimed towards them before this article. Certainly, I haven't heard that Wakanda Forever was particularly more "woke" than its predecessor that easily cleared $1 billion at the box office; more likely, the failure of the sequel comes not from it being any more "woke" than the original film, but from the fact that the film was probably doomed from the moment Chadwick Boseman died.

Good points. Never forget, though, that the "anti-woke" crowd are very often hardened racists, so that probably explains the inclusion of the Black Panther franchise and The Little Mermaid. Even I, however, am at a loss to explain how Ant-Man 3 and GotG 3 got there, though.

But this is actually not surprising at all. This type of prejudice and hatred never had any logic to begin with, and is getting less and less "coherent" as the years go by.

            A bunch of BS.

That's like saying every LGBTQ supporter is a pedophile, which, based on how things are rapidly manifesting and what we're seeing, actually has far more merit in reality.

Has the subtle distinction between "very often" and "every" escaped your notice?

I've seen Thor, Wakanda Forever, and AntMan. I don't recall anything "woke" in Thor or Antman. Wakanda forever....it was "woke" only on the basic fact that it focuses on black superheroes....

                As for profit/loss.

Thor was the 3rd highest grossing movie of 2022. If it had a loss it wasn't because of it's messaging. According to Deadline, it made around 103 Million in profit.
Wakanda, 859 Million world wide, according to deadline, ~259 Million in profit.
Deadline doesn't have anything profit-wise on Antman and the wasp. Though, I saw that it did come in shy of the estimated 600M that would have been needed to turn a profit. (it made 476M)
The live action little mermaid appears to likely end up making a profit, albeit a dissapointing one.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, has currently made $824 Million. If it loses money it's not because it did poorly, its because it cost too much to make, and the box office couldn't overcome it. Generally though, the back of the envelope calculation is that a film needs to make 2x it's budget to turn a profit. Budget is reported at 250 million, so it's pas that point.

That leaves, what? Light year, an odd sort of spinoff from a film nobody was really asking for, and Strangeworld, a movie that many reported was clunky, and an original IP (always risky these days).

Honestly, the case that it's due to "Wokeness" wasn't a great story to try and tell, especially with only 3 of the movies actually looking like they turned a loss.
