Well, we now know that the FBI is actively investigating Russian involvement and possible collusion with Trump so, presumably, there is good reason to do so. Not exactly. It was more along the lines of "It wasn't us!" Which is probably true, but I don't think anybody thought the FBI were the ones who carried out the surveillance anyway.
