So, what do you suggest for a media that has totally failed in the objectives in the role you have designated for them? They have been simply promoting detrimental unconstitutional activity in the US Government. They've been asleep since Nixon, and with Nixon maybe they woke up, still dreary eyed, before going back to sleep.
The media envisioned by the founding fathers was where a variety of private view points would be espoused -- and that these viewpoints would reveal problems in the government. What we have ended up with is the large corporate media who is sponsored (and owned) by large corporations who seek their own agendas in the government. The media has begged to attend the Whitehouse press briefings and has printed WH PR without comment in previous administrations. Large unconstitutional power grabs (like Obamacare) have gone on unscathed by the keen eyes of modern media.
Again I ask, what role do you envision now for the media?

I'm in favor of a media who holds the US Government to the the constitution which delegates powers to the government. Our government has already been abusive and claiming authority it doesn't have. I'm hoping that Trump can disrupt that without himself becoming abusive -- it seems unlikely that he will be able to grab so much power as to become a dictator. There will not be full support toward that by Congress, the courts or the states.

That isn't what she said. It's the press' job to control what people think: "[Trump] could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that is our job." Not inform but control.
I'm always still in trouble again

It's ironic, then, that the liberal media is guilty of demagoguery, lying, and other forms of journalistic malpractice. "Who watches the watchmen?"Some may call me foolish, and some may call me odd
But I'd rather be a fool in the eyes of man
Than a fool in the eyes of God

It is not up to anybody to "control what people think", that's '1984' territory, but the facts must be presented and that's the role of media.
It hearkens back to when New York TimesChicago Tribune described as "neither fair, balanced nor especially effective") released in the summer of 2004, John Nichols of The Nation, worried that Fox News Channel "limits" and "narrows political discourse" by presenting conservative viewpoints. Needless to say Nichols doesn't bother to explain how decades of liberal TV news unanimity represented political diversity, and a conservative alternative somehow marks a narrowing in the spectrum of opinion.
