  • And out today...

Fox News is reporting that Trump was 100% aware of what Flynn talked to the Russian Ambassador about. Hence Trump withheld highly relevant information from his VP.

Flynn appears to have lied to the FBI in an interview with them by denying he discussed sanctions with the Russian Ambassador.

The Trump titanic continues to sink.

I was thinking today it's pretty problematic that the US doesn't have good mechanisms to trigger a re-election like most other countries in the Western world do (called a snap election). If there are really serious problems with the election process or with the elected government, a new election gets triggered.

But the US lacks those controls. So when you've got an outcome like this where US intelligence has determined that Russia actively tried to affect the outcome of the election, and the result is that the Russians have the president of America they want and he's chosen his VP and cabinet, then you've got problems. Because getting rid of him leaves the entire rest of those that he's appointed, and the power structure follows that list. The intelligence agencies can only wring their hands over how much influence Russia has achieved for themselves in the US government, because the US constitution offers no way to trigger new elections. Seems like a serious flaw. Here we'd just trigger a new election and a month later the new government would be in place and people would be able to have confidence in their government again.

I don't know, I think most Republicans in congress would rather Pence be president than Trump.

If anything I think it would be the Democrats who might be leery of an impeachment, because Trump seems more liberal than Pence.

Yes, Flynn lied about his conversation to the president (and it seems to the FBI), and after the matter was investigated by the White House counsel where Flynn apparently came clean, Trump asked him to step down. Sorry, kids, but there's no story here.

It's worth noting, again, that Flynn's conversation was not illegal or improper (although he seems to have thought it was if he lied through his teeth about it).

Anyway, the question we should be asking is, who is leaking classified information to the press? And if they're willing to leak it to the press then who else are they willing to leak it to? Foreign governments, maybe? Perhaps the reporters who received the classified information should be held accountable since this is a serious breech of national security. Hold their feet to the fire and offer them reduced charges in exchange for their source.

Trump denies having known about Flynns conversations with the Russians, and yet he says Flynn did nothing wrong, he was just doing his job, that if he wasn't doing that then Trump would have directed him to do it. In other words Flynn is the scapegoat. Flynn was not the NSA at the time, and Trump was not the president, and neither had the authority to negotiate current foriegn policy with the Russians. My guess is that Flynn didn't do this on his own without consulting the soon to be President.

Jimmy, the FBI says that Flynn did nothing wrong.

Even CNN admitted "that communications between campaign staff and representatives of foreign governments are not unusual."

You know, for people who were freaking out a few weeks ago about alleged foreign influence in our election, you sure seem awfully cavalier about people inside our own government betraying our national security.

Only a liberal could think that being asked to prove his claims is an insult.

Even if that's true, it's quite a stretch to think they'd allow an impeachment to get to that goal.

Right because the chances of impeaching anyone, much less every one on that list is so high. You are cute when you are desperate.

I always figured that's why Obama chose Biden as his running mate. Biden would make Trump look like a smooth operator.
