  • A good video on the stats of Nuclear Power

This is from Kyle Hill, a science communicator (i.e. someone like Bill Nye, Mr. Wizard, etc.)

He breaks down alot of the assumptions and misconceptions about Nuclear Power.

It annoys me how unwilling people are to invest in nuclear power. It's green and productive and incredibly safe. The world needs green power to prevent climate change.
"I hate him passionately", he's "a demonic force" - Tucker Carlson, in private, on Donald Trump
"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism" - George Orwell
"[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy" - Albert Einstein

It's a little hokey, but worth watching.

The historical opposition to nuclear power has, to a large extent, always been ideological. The “liberal” left have never been able to dissociate their fixation on nuclear power and nuclear weapons being synonymous.

Years ago, Isaac Asimov was accosted by a tree hugger who berated him; “How can you support nuclear power? You’re so liberal.” Apparently, no subsequent explanation of his in support of the clean, non-polluting and long term viable use of nuclear power would dissuade her. Nuclear bad.

Back in the 1980’s, it was fashionable for various local authorities throughout the UK to declare themselves to be Nuclear Free Zones. As if such declarations would ward off incoming Soviet atomic missiles, should they be delivered. One such authority was the London Borough of Greenwich, which proudly declared it’s anti nuclear status to the world, while at the same time, in the basement of the Royal Naval College, housing the only critical nuclear reactor in London.
When inventing a god, it is imperative to claim that it's; invisible, inaudible and imperceptible in every way. Otherwise - when it appears to no one, is silent and does nothing - intelligent people are liable to become sceptical.

The serious concerns are with regard to dealing with nuclear waste and the possibility of lax safety and environmental regulations if such plants are run by private concerns and solely for profit without [as one contributor noted on another topic] "Government interfering with the free market".

Yeah, I figured that, because it's done well.

Somebody mentioned Jimmy Carter in another thread -- remember when his daughter, Amy, was a major critic of nuclear power?
And Jimmy was actually schooled in nuclear power as a Naval Officer.
