I would not use racial slurs. However, I think it would be smarter for minorities to accept and adopt the racial slurs. That would remove their power. This would be similar to the American Revolutionaries adopting the term Yankee Doodles, which was a slur at the time.

I never considered it safer language. It is just that the society frowns upon such stuff. I still think that if everyone was 'allowed' to use "the N word" instead of using that absurd work around. It would be better for society. It does not hurt my feelings to be called a honkey or whitebread. Why do equivalent terms rattle some folks so badly?

While I don't always agree with it, I sort of see it as a counterpoint to most other online sites that appear to tend very left leaning. I imagine this has lots to do with the demographics of most websites which are generally young...college-aged, tech savvy, or liberal arts based. At least...those I visit.

I tend to stay far away from most mainstream media. I find both Fox News and CNN pretty bonkers, but even that media that I personally feel drawn to like NPR, and some of my favorite podcasts, they all lean either mildly or radically left. Theologyweb, in some ways, has become a small bastion for a dozen or so Christians to look at the wider world of weirdness and lament what's going on with the world. And even here they can't express their bewilderment at how bizarre things have gotten without push back from those who feel the need to gripe at them rather than just....leave...and find some other, more comfortable echo chamber to bounce social and political views off of.

I'm kinda surprised how many people in this thread aren't familiar with that old Picante salsa commercial, or the numerous old cowboy films that it's calling back on. "Git a rope" is an old Western slang phrase. So much so that the English Old School punk band, Cock Sparrer, actually titled a song "Get a Rope". As far as I can tell it has no explicit racist connotations, but was itself a callback to the Western phrase. Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit is one of my favorite songs, and incredibly sad, but before seeing this thread, I never associated the phrase "Git a rope" with black lynchings. Perhaps it's an age thing, but "Git a rope" always recalls old Westerns like Hang 'Em High and the like.
