There have been studies that show that what is considered normal porn don't really effect the average viewer one way or another, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest that allowing pedophiles access to kiddie porn suppresses their desires to violate children.

I never said moralizing is bad in itself, but it does get boring to see it for page after page of a thread.

There are certain ideas that simply do not need to be entertained because they are insane to rational people. Shooting people in the head to stop a headache. Drowning a baby to stop them crying. Giving child porn to a pedophile in the hopes it will curb pedophilia. In another time and in another place the very idea of a "thought experiment" that considers providing child porn to pedophiles would have likely gotten you tarred and feathered. It's only in this postmodern world where anything goes, and our culture is so sick that people think that this might be a viable option that needs to be workshopped and thrown around. It is insanity. It's evil. It's disgusting, and it's certainly not something that needs to be given a second thought by rational people.

And yet it is a premise of the OP that this sort of insanity may soon become even more common. If we want to stave off that possibility in a society that is becoming increasingly sick, moral outrage is not enough (though it's not dispensable, either). It's necessary to be able to engage their arguments on their own terms, and I happen to see this thread as a potential opportunity to develop and test out arguments. If we can't explain why this is more than just a taboo (i.e. have rational arguments about it), we make it easier for people to dismiss it as just that-- an irrational taboo.

As a God-fearer, you should seriously reconsider your defence of those who are seriously proposing it.

Because this is something I just have examples for off the top of my head for things that I don't actually need to support because the research just isnt there. Studies involving pedophiles almost never get funded and if not for them then who is using porn to suppress sexual desires? Thats not a thing that would get studied hence we're in uncharted territory and, HENCE, thought experiment.

I'm not talking about just pedophiles. I'm talking about any example of pornography being successfully used to to curb sexual behavior. Surely someone with your self-proclaimed expertise can present just one example. How about a rapist who was cured of raping by a steady diet of hardcore porn? Or an unfaithful husband who lost his desire to cheat by looking at pornography? Anything? Anything at all? Isn't it possible that your degree is only fit for lining the bottom of a bird cage?

That's a big debate among researchers and treatment specialists. Does porn sate or exacerbate a pedophiles desires towards children. We want to know for more reasons than just that, incidentally. If its the former then we should be giving pedophiles as much porn as they friggin want. If it exacerbates? The opposite, of course..

I and others already addressed it. multiple times.
