That's the whole story. "Secession" is a turnip ghost. It was a possibility when people had enough local civic feeling to see themselves as citizens of states with their own interests, but the divide is not Red State Versus Blue State, its Red Country versus Blue Urbanites, or Producers versus Parasites.
