This is a slight twist on the classic argument. Since my conversion I have become, over all, a better person. A better son, father, and employee. More generous, less selfish and more kind. Faith has also provided great comfort, and a hope for a life beyond this vale of tears. So in the end, if there is no God, what have I lost?

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

No more so than the loss of some degree of tolerance towards those who believe differently than Christians.

Originally posted by Yttrium View PostWell, reduced tolerance for those of opposing belief systems is commonplace. In fact, adopting a belief may simply shift intolerances around a little. In my experience, Christians typically (but not always) balance any intolerance with compassion, as taught by Jesus. As long as those intolerances don't get out of hand, I think being happy in life wins out.
I agree with Seer. My life has gotten better since I have become a Christian. People like to whine about being Christian takes all the fun out of life and how they would rather end up in hell partying with all their friends than sitting around in heaven playing a harp, but as someone who became a Christian late in life (40) I can compare both life styles and say that being a Christian is better than not being one, speaking for myself.

I wouldn't lose anything. So what if universalism is true, then I'm going to heaven, if Christianity is True I'm going to heaven, if there's nothing left, then bury my body and I'll look peaceful..... maybe reincarnation is true and I can come back and be a cat... oh well life was lived and lived well and it was worthwhile. IMO I have nothing to gain or lose by being a ChristianA happy family is but an earlier heaven.
