Apologetics 301 Guidelines

If you think this is the area where you tell everyone you are sorry for eating their lunch out of the fridge, it probably isn't the place for you

This forum is open discussion between atheists and all theists to defend and debate their views on religion or non-religion. Please respect that this is a Christian-owned forum and refrain from gratuitous blasphemy. VERY wide leeway is given in range of expression and allowable behavior as compared to other areas of the forum, and moderation is not overly involved unless necessary. Please keep this in mind. Atheists who wish to interact with theists in a way that does not seek to undermine theistic faith may participate in the World Religions Department. Non-debate question and answers and mild and less confrontational discussions can take place in General Theistics.

What's particularly interesting to me is that only 86% think 'belief in God' is essential. Reading the Bible is at 42%. Apparently 'being a good person' is more important than almost anything else.
The poll is poorly crafted to get a meaningful response. I could legitimately answer "no" to "believing in God" because it's not a uniquely Christian belief.

I don't understand what you mean. They were asked what things are essential to what "being a Christian" means to them. There's nothing that says the essentials must be exclusive to Christianity.

But the questions can be construed to be asking that. They're not well-formed.

He's upset because, like the Scriptures, the poll makes no mention whatsoever of icons.
Actually YOU put Trump in the White House. He wouldn't have gotten 1% of the vote if it wasn't for the widespread spiritual and cultural devastation caused by progressive policies. There's no "this country" left with your immigration policies, your "allies" are worthless and even more suicidal than you are and democracy is a sick joke that I hope nobody ever thinks about repeating when the current order collapses. - Darth_Executor striking a conciliatory note in Civics 101

My bad, I meant I always thought of you as taxing.

              I love you too. <3

If someone asked you "Is belief in God essential to what 'being a Christian' means to you?", you would answer no? I don't think anyone would actually take it the way you're suggesting.

Even if we granted that the 14% of respondents who did answer 'no' construed it this way, the relative position of the various essentials wouldn't be invalidated.

I'm more puzzled that they differentiated between "Catholic" and "Christian."

I'll be honest: I authored the survey.

Why do I keep getting reports from Trout complaining about mossy?

If you'd gone to high school where I did, you wouldn't be. "Are you Catholic or Christian?" was a common question.

That's been the dominant message within Evangelical Protestant circles for decades.
