It's about welcoming Gentiles (unclean) into the fold.

God USED the food prohibitions for a greater purpose.

I agree, but some Christians think it is about food.

And that was that the Gentiles were now accepted.

Do you agree that Cornelius lacked something important?

No. Peter did, as did the Jewish Church.

The whole sheet with the food and Cornelius was to show Peter and the other apostles that the OT laws were no longer in effect for the attainment of salvation.

Jesus fulfilled the law and there was no need for anyone else to keep the dietary and separation laws that Moses had enacted.

Cornelius was the first Gentile that Peter was to encounter and God needed Peter to understand that there was no difference between a Jewish and a Gentile believer in Christ.

It's not "about" food -- I don't know any literate Christians who believe that -- but it does reinforce what Peter should have already known from being present at the events surrounding Mark 7:19.

Peter did need to know that God declared the Gentiles clean, But Cornelius needed to hear the Gospel. When he did, he was baptized and received the Holy Spirit.

You need to find a different teacher.

                            And another thing.

When I listen to these Christians in my Bible class and see how they interpret some Scriptures I come to the conclusion that they are lazy. They just can't take the time to do a proper job of it. For instance, the subject came up yesterday about whether Jesus was the only way to God, TWO participants interpreted Jesus' comment "my Father has many rooms" (mansions) as an indication there would be people from other religious in some of those rooms as proof that Jesus was not only way.

When people are not taught correct theology they become undiscerning and can't see that what the person teaching them is saying is wrong.
