Christianity 201 Guidelines

orthodox Christians only.

Discussion on matters of general mainstream evangelical Christian theology that do not fit within Theology 201. Have some spiritual gifts ceased today? Is the KJV the only viable translation for the church today? In what sense are the books of the bible inspired and what are those books? Church government? Modern day prophets and apostles?

This forum is primarily for Christians to discuss matters of Christian doctrine, and is not the area for debate between atheists (or those opposing orthodox Christianity) and Christians. Inquiring atheists (or sincere seekers/doubters/unorthodox) seeking only Christian participation and having demonstrated a manner that does not seek to undermine the orthodox Christian faith of others are also welcome, but must seek Moderator permission first. When defining "Christian" or "orthodox" for purposes of this section, we mean persons holding to the core essentials of the historic Christian faith such as the Trinity, the Creatorship of God, the virgin birth, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the atonement, the future bodily return of Christ, the future bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the final judgment. Persons not holding to these core doctrines are welcome to participate in the Comparative Religions section without restriction, in Theology 201 as regards to the nature of God and salvation with limited restrictions, and in Christology for issues surrounding the person of Christ and the Trinity. Atheists are welcome to discuss and debate these issues in the Apologetics 301 forum without such restrictions.

Additionally and rarely, there may be some topics or lines of discussion that within the Moderator's discretion fall so outside the bounds of mainstream orthodox doctrine (in general Christian circles or in the TheologyWeb community) or that deny certain core values that are the Christian convictions of forum leadership that may be more appropriately placed within Unorthodox Theology 201. NO personal offense should be taken by such discretionary decision for none is intended. While inerrancy is NOT considered a requirement for posting in this section, a general respect for the Bible text and a respect for the inerrantist position of others is requested.

The Tweb rules apply here like they do everywhere at Tweb, if you haven't read them, now would be a good time.

For me I preferred to date ladies from Asia or Southeast Asia who were either atheists, confused Christians or confused Buddhists.
They pretty much just go along with whatever the man says so there was never really many problems theologically or otherwise.

Thank you very much, friends, for your responses thus far. I hope to see more participation on this thread in the time to come. I see this as a very important topic and a very practical concern for believers as a whole, irrespective of whether one is a Protestant or Evangelical, Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox. It is good to learn from the perspectives of those who are married and nice to see the responses of unmarried persons as well.

Isn't a woman [who has] some conviction of her beliefs of some value to you? (Do not take this as a criticism, but more of a concern.)

Edited to added: Minor correction contained in brackets.

With all due respect, I think Foud has a rather "It's all about me" worldview. But I will be happy to be corrected on that.

I am on board with you regarding sharing similar soteriological beliefs and having the same basic understanding of gender roles when considering someone as a potential marital partner. Thank you for bringing this up.

I do not know much of anything about foudroyant, honestly. All I can say is that I will not be leaving for the Philippines anytime soon.

I believe your basic observations are correct. It is actually quite unfortunate that many non-Calvinists (male and female) cannot even articulate their soteriological beliefs very well. In other words, they really don't know what they believe (though, of course, they understand Christ to be their Lord and Savior).

If you'll but reread the opening post more attentively the next time around, you will see that I am not hinting at any form of "perfection" in either the institution of marriage or regarding a "perfect mate" (marital partner). From whence did this misunderstanding on your part arise?

I want to have the new baby baptized, we're debating it. So what? Its not the hill we're going to die on. I believe in soul immortatiliy [sic] either heaven or hell, he's an annihilationist. He's not hung up on innerrancy, I believe in something in between. I wouldn't have cared if he was a calvinist. You know why? We're both Christians, we both have a real firmly founded belief in the Word of God. That's important. That's what counts. We have some lively discussions. And neither one of us has to agree with the other on any non essential doctrine. We're Ecumenical. The Essential Part of Christianity comes with Believing in Christ's Life Death and Ressurrection [sic] and baptising. on that we agree. There are other things that are more important.... Like Raising children, having common goals, helping one another get to heaven. etc.
Thank you for expressing your views. I would agree that whether one is a genuine Christian (i.e., a believer in Jesus Christ) is crucial in the marriage arrangement. You have forthrightly raised the issue of ecumenism and I thank you for it, as that is definitely a major topic for discussion. That said, I will refrain from any criticism on this thread.
