Laughing -- it's must me and wife - with occasional laundry visits from daughters or granddaughters.

Mom, on the other hand, had 9 kids plus gramma lived with us, so Mom was doing laundry EVERY DAY except Sunday.
They built Maytag washers and dryers like tanks in those days!

      • Something fishy about this thread.

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight

That one is nicer than ours. We're in the middle of constructing a new building, so right now we're in a temporary space and most of our stuff is "making do". However, we do have a nice new altar cloth if I do say so myself.

                Purchased, or somebody made it?

I've been through that, too, from construction to consecration. It was interesting putting together the service for the consecration. It's great to worship in a space that LOOKS like an Orthodox church from the outside and has matching iconography.

"If I do say so myself" is taking credit for something, typically. I had volunteered for a sewing project a while back, so the priest knew I could sew. So I got "voluntold" to make the new altar cloths, and repair some of his vestments. Our current altar is a portable one that folds up, because our priest is a chaplain and needs to be able to take it with him. It's what we're using in our temporary space. But when we move into the new building, we will have a nice new one that is most definitely not portable at all, and I'll probably be the one to make the altar cloths for that one, too.

The folding altar was made by another parishioner who does woodworking. I don't think the priest knows I'm a woodworker also, or he may have had me make the altar, too!

I've seen the pictures. I'll share pictures of ours when it's done.

                          • Our Palm Sunday was great. The priest's wife cooked some really good salmon, and my mother brought gumbo with cod in it. Other people brought fish dishes and there were fish sticks for the kids. Y'all should have been there.

Here's the altar cloths I've made so far. The first one is purple for Lent and Holy Week on one side, and red for Advent on the other. Lent is purple with gold trim, Holy Week is purple with black trim. The purple side has gold trim on three edges, and the fourth with black trim is turned to the front for Holy Week.

The second one is Pascha white on one side, and regular gold on the other.

The one I haven't made yet will be blue with silver trim on one side for the Theotokos, and green with gold trim on the other for Pentecost.

I would have if capybara was on the menu as the internet has been abuzz that it was once deemed to be "fish" by Rome during Lent.

From Richard Dawkins' Greatest Show on Earth:

"In South America, capybaras (sort of giant guinea pigs) were deemed to be honorary fish for the purposes of Catholic dietary laws on Fridays, presumably because they live in water. According to the food writer Doris Reynolds, French Catholic gourmets discovered a loophole that enabled them to eat meat on Fridays. Lower a leg of lamb into a well and then ‘fish’ it out. They must think God is awfully easily fooled. "
