Dang it. My dog just crashed. I have to reboot him. Please don't report me to PETA.

    • So, what is the verdict? Install or not.

From what I can tell so far, if you have 8 or 8.1, maybe yes, but if you have 7, prolly no.

        • I'm a bit vary of installing Windows 10 because of all the privacy data that it supposedly collects. Until I find a way to disable/block all, or most, of it I'm not going to bother updating.

              • OK, I had cloned one of my laptops' hard drive to a solid state drive, and that solid state drive boots up Win7 just fine. So, I think I'll go ahead and let it upgrade to Win10, knowing I can always go back to the drive from which the solid state one was cloned.

                      • It does seem that Windows 10's default settings are to allow apps to send usage information to Microsoft, and to allow them access to your microphone and camera as well as use your current location information. For privacy purposes, this stuff can all be disabled partly during initial setup and further in the settings panel after installation. Just a word of warning; if you decide to install then customize during setup instead of keeping the express settings.

                        • So I bit the bullet and upgraded one of my laptops to Win10. The installation "failed" several times, but unlike OTHER versions, it picked up and continued, and finally installed.

It's pretty snappy on my Dell D830, and it doesn't look like it's going to be a big learning curve. So far, everything (programs, etc) works, and I might actually like it.

                              • When I gave up on my old computer with XP and bought a laptop with Windows 8, I found out that my perfectly good printer/scanner/fax was totally useless because neither Microsoft nor Dell felt it worth their trouble to fix their glitches. My Bible software doesn't work with dual screens. And WordPerfect was not compatible with my monitor when viewing documents in landscape format, which I use regularly. I had to upgrade to WP X6. Upgrading to 8.1 didn't help any. My concern is that if I upgraded to Windows 10, I'm going to run into the same problems all over again.
