The tall wooden pillars with lanterns on top are there because I had my render distance set really low because my computer couldn't handle having a lot of area loaded at once. I often leave Minecraft running while I'm away from the computer, and I want my automated farm stuff to keep doing its thing. If I stand in the middle of the village and I can see all my pillars, I know the entire area is loaded. I guess I don't need those anymore. These screenshots are from two different villages, and the middle pillar in the last screenshot can now be seen from the second village!
