I'm still not greatly bothered, given the documented screwiness of COD assignments.
I've also heard that year-over-year total deaths are not up significantly, but I don't know if that's true.

Vaccines will, but as never before 'defeat the COVID-10.
Exactly what should he have done? Be specific.

And how many more have died since the beginning when hospitals were closed from other issues that would otherwise have been addressed?
And how many babies died because abortion clinics were allowed to stay open?
Securely anchored to the Rock amid every storm of trial, testing or tribulation.

It means that saying something like "that's more than died in 9/11" is just being overly dramatic by comparing natural deaths to a terrorist attack caused by people because natural deaths out number 9/11 on a DAILY basis even without COVID-19.

Deaths due to disease can be minimized but not abolished.
Deaths due to terrorism fall into the same category as disease, but an event like 9/11 is avoidable. We don't need our airports to have inadequate security; we don't need to allow conditions on planes which give poorly armed men the ability to hijack it; we don't need to ignore intelligence which says that an attack is imminent. AND we don't need to invade another country - one that was not the source of the attack - to fight the terrorism. There was a lot we could have done to prevent 9/11 or mitigate its damage.
There's a lot we could have done to mitigate the US effects caused by COVID-19, too. That Republicans generally haven't expressed concern about those effects is both a fact and avoidable. And now we have more mostly-avoidable deaths occurring every 4 days than the mostly-avoidable deaths which occurred on 9/11. And Republicans are still actually skeptical that a problem exists,

Should we have locked everyone in their homes under house arrest while the economy went into the toilet? Maybe we should have stopped all those rioters all over the country that you keep supporting? or do you believe only republicans can spread the virus?
Regardless, comparing a terrorist attack with a pandemic is just pure drama queenery, meant to evoke an emotional response.

Unless, of course, those conspiracies are true, and the Chinese have WEAPONIZED the illness and it's GENOCIDE!!!

What he shouldn't have done is lie incessantly about the virus (it's under control, it'll be gone soon or when the weather warms up, we have the best testing/treatment in the world, anyone who wants a test can get one, it's just the sniffles, it's no worse than the flu, it's harmless for 99% of people who get it, etc). He shouldn't have politicized the virus (it's a Democrat hoax, etc). He shouldn't ever have pretended that masks and social distancing are anything other than absolutely necessary. He shouldn't shouldn't have released standards for cities/states to reopen, and then threaten them to reopen independent of whether the standards have been met. He shouldn't have publicly undermined the expertise of his own task force.
Rather than me being a genius for knowing these things, you're an idiot for not knowing them.

You claimed they should have done things differently. What should Trump have done? Be specific. Policies. And remember the states aren't under his thumb, they have their own governments.
