There is no comparison between the symbolism of the Confederate flag and that of washington etc that you mention. There is a balance. This country arose in a time of slavery. That doesnt mean its ideals and reason for being are tainted. But, as we as a people advanced in our freedoms and our moral understanding of freedom we reached a point were slavery was no longer tenable. Washington etc represent part of the march towards greater freedom, a greater society and a greater nation, imperfect as they were. The confederate flag represents the opposite. The resistance to a greater and better morality and a greater nation.

Lincoln and Jefferson did not wage a bloody war of separation and division of the USA to support the institution of slavery, and after the Reconstruction continue slavery as penal servitude. and the persecution, ethnic cleansing of blacks in many cities among many other atrocities against blacks. .

Indeed "atrocities were committed by both sides" but while most folks are aware of Andersonville and the atrocities that took place there, few are aware of the conditions in Union prisons including those near Chicago that held "political prisoners."

To be honest, most of these idiots didn't even know who these statues were as men. Second, they aren't stopping there. They have already destroyed Columbus statues and are going after Jefferson and Washington because they slave owners.
