I thought about this as well MM. this is one of those where it is not at all clear who or what is driving the cart.Trump is so over the top, and in many cases so obscene that he is going to get more negstive publicity than any other president. Yet reporting these ridiculous things in the news is going to make those people not completely committed to the man less happy with him.

So is it Trump, or is it reporting what Trump does, or is it media bias over emphasising the negative things trump does? Does the media over emphasize what trump does, or is he so over the top that it only feels like that , especially to those that are blind to the deep outrage his excess evokes in those not inclined to dismiss or excuse it.

So we'll just ignore the networks (and not just the news but their regular programming), the hundreds of newspapers and magazines, social media (which quickly blocks conservative voices -- unless your famous and then they restore them), Hollyweird and the music industry... To compare Fox News to that is like comparing David to Goliath -- if David were the size of a sparrow.

Just pointing out that you can't have it both ways. Fox news can't be winning the hearts of the country for Trump and CNN and MSNBC going down the tubes at the same time Fox news is a bucket and the main-stream media is an ocean.

The reality is that Donald Trump can't get good press because Donald Trump doesn't want good press and because Donald Trump keeps doing really stupid things like ...

Claiming China called him want to restart trade negotiations when in fact they did not ...

Claiming he was meeting with the German and Indian representatives at the G7 as an excuse for not attending the climate change meeting when there are photos of his chair empty and both the German and Indian representatives sitting there in that meeting (i.e. NOT meeting with him) ...

Not only this, about the call, Trump admits he lied! He says 'This is how I negotiate, it's worked well for me all these years'.


IF we could have a real conversation on this we could discuss the excess on both sides, and there is excess on both sides. But we can't. So we can't. The reality - bottom line - is that Donald Trump is so off the rails he's a danger to the country and the world. The rising animosity between the US and our allies, China and the Russians is just the tip of the iceberg. His over -the- top attacks on so many poor and helpless people and children in his attack on illegal immigration are another. His consistent abuse of the power of the president to attack individual US citizens with whom he has personal and petty disagreements is another. And they completely overwhelm whatever good he might be accomplishing.

All of this and so much more make the majority of media outlets almost exclusively negatively focused on him.

So here is a suggestion: I'll sit back for a while and unlike you I'll listen for a minute to those of you that think Trump is being unfairly represented by the media.

For the next 36 hours I will not post in this thread. And I will invite as many as would like to post what they believe are the good things Trump has done with perhaps a paragraph or two about why they thing these things taken together offer some reasonable compensation for the sort of things I mention above.

Other conversations will probably continue. Or maybe we can just start another thread. I don't care which. If you start another thread talking about what you believe are the good things Trump has done, I will not post in it for 36 hours. Either way - show me what I'm missing.

Fox News can dominate in ratings and still be a drop in the ocean when it comes to political representation in media. It's not at all controversial to say that the media generally leans left; Often far left (whether discussing news outlets or entertainment media). Fox News is one of the few no-kidding mainstream right wing media outlets, and so their numbers are going to be propped by demand, whereas viewership for left-leaning media will be diluted by their abundance, giving left-leaning audiences plenty of options to choose from. This is mainly true for TV, film, podcast, and music. Talk radio still seems to be dominated by Conservative media, but I think the audience for talk radio will eventually age out.
