How is the right (let alone so much of it) moving further right? I get the more agitated bit, but movement? Conservatism by its very nature is more or less a static thing, yes?

It would be useful to ask what your definition of "conservatism" is given how many ways there are to define the term, but I can't think of many that I would call static given that society itself is a moving train.

It's not that the right is moving further right, it's that parts of the left are moving way further left to the point it's actually fracturing the political left. Don't take my word for it, take it from a leftwing political activist himself...

It's from this splintered extreme left group that we're seeing this TDS psychosis. The MSM is underscoring it because it's the type of political sensationalism they feed off of for ratings. As far as actual societal manifestation of ill sentiment activity we saw during Obama, it's not even close, as I've pointed out previously. Of course, that can easily (and probably will) change during and after 2020 election.

The same way the left moves further left. For instance, family, friends and acquaintances of mine who always tended to be a bit more center-right politically are now like ravenously right. Are taking hard stances on issues that in years past they might have shrugged about. Are writing right-wing diatribes on their facebook, and forwarding right-wing memes. And then you have places like r/The_Donald on Reddit, which is often filled with right-wing conspiracy theory, and sort of language and behavior I've never really seen among Conservatives until recently. Reddit alternatives like VOAT are completely toxic, filled with right-wing outcasts from left-leaning places like Reddit. It's filled with heavy nationalism, white pride, and conspiracy theories. The news I listen to on both liberal and conservative channels have increasingly moved "us vs. them," and have dropped all pretense of "fair and balanced."

All I know is that things are not the way they once were. Both sides are getting more foamy at the mouth, and it's frankly frightening.

No, I definitely find that they're both moving further to their corners. I think people on the right don't like to hear that (who would?), but from my personal experiences, it appears to me to be the truth.

Interesting. I'm not seeing any of that in my (generally conservative) circles, but I've never paid any attention to the foamy-mouth extreme. Yes, foamy at the mouth on either side is not good. I think we're seeing the effects of the lessening influence of the church on society, and it's not likely to get better any time soon.

No, in the last few years, it's definitely the left making a large shift.

It would be difficult to deny that the right is more emboldened in staking out more extreme positions than before. Like Adrift, I have witnessed behavior from conservatives I know that would previously not have been a wide phenomenon, like conservatives I know pushing the QAnon conspiracy/Pizzagate/etc. But I don't think that actually equates to them being more conservative. The GOP has stopped pretending to even pay lip service to fiscal responsibility (apart from the Freedom Caucus, who is significantly outnumbered).

I think what Adrift is seeing is the defensive reaction of the right against the hysterical bullying faction of the left. When you're getting physically attacked, shouted down, accused of being nazis, racists, sexists over and over, then the response of the right to entrench themselves is only natural. There's always been conspiracies surrounding the right's political foes, and that's nothing new either. Look at how they viewed Obama -- he's really a Kenyan, he's a Muslim, he's a member of the Muslim brotherhood, he's the antichrist, etc. But you're definitely right about the actual political right. No way are they drifting to the right, in fact, they're actually moving more towards the center closer to where the left used to be, and this couldn't be anymore evident than with their insane fiscal spending. As far as immigration, the right is exactly where the Dems used to be on this issue. It's the faction of the radical left that's moving away from the norm.

Does not mean 'rightwing going more right', just means that fewer moderates sit on fence. Less pretense of kumbaya, 'why can't we all just get along????????'

Remaining squishy moderates like you scared cos less of you, less cover of numbers. Many such cases!

Lots of moderates moderate cos they want safety, in middle of herd, also want avoid conflict. Guess what, now time of polarisation, fewer fewer mods left. Soon no more cover!!!

Both are shifting according to that page. Regardless, no poll or survey will shake what I'm seeing with my own two eyes and ears is in real life. It's not just my imagination. Something really is happening, and others seem to be noticing it as well. I'm surprised that people on this forum can't see it, but then, TWeb does lean awfully right, so that might explain it.

TWeb lean awfully right? I don't see anyone here pushing the examples you're citing from far right sites. I never see them in my usual sources, either.
