  • Hillary Clinton to serve as keynote speaker at cyber defense summit

No this is NOT a Babylon Bee or Onion satire. It's for real.

    ----

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will serve as a keynote speaker at the Cyber Defense Summit 2019, the cybersecurity company FireEye announced on Thursday.

"We are pleased to announce that Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be a featured keynote at our #FireEyeSummit in October! Secretary Clinton will engage in an intimate Q&A keynote discussion," a tweet from the company read.

The only way I can think Hillary could give an informative keynote on cybersecurity is if it's under the premise that you should do the exact opposite of what she did. It's like the bit in the Douglas Adams book Mostly Harmless, where the protagonist, Arthur Dent, seeks advice from a wise old sage living in a smelly cave. She hands him a copy of her autobiography and says,
"It's the story of my life. You see, the quality of any advice anybody has to offer has to be judged against the quality of life they actually lead. Now, as you look through this document, you'll see that I've underlined all the major decisions I ever made to make them stand out. They're all indexed and cross-referenced. See? All I can suggest is that if you take decisions that are exactly opposite to the sort of decisions that I've taken, then maybe you won't finish up at the end of your life" --she paused, and filled her lungs for a good shout--"in a smelly old cave like this!"

Would this be a good thread for your "this is where we throw our heads back and laugh" shtick?

Maybe her keynote speech is as an object lesson on what not to do.

But I bet they will sell a LOT of tickets of people who want to go just to see what the heck she is going to say. I hope it ends up on youtube at some point.

When they talk about "Take this opportunity to share best practices, learn about the latest advancements, and enhance your cyber preparedness" it should noted that many times our "best practices" are developed from really bad examples and case studies.

It's like inviting Michael Avanetti to give a speech on ethics to the legal profession, complete with Q&A.

Meanwhile, I note that the extent of her "keynote" seems to be attached to Q&A - anybody wanna bet on softballs vs hardballs?

Is there a limit on the number of times one can claim "I don't recall"? Or is that like the 7 times 70 thing in the Bible?

And some things are so hideous that they are excellent examples of bad examples.
