exactly. Our first amendment is there to protect speech that others might find offensive or intolerant. What good is free speech that everyone agrees with?

basically the UK seems to say "We believe free speech is important unless it says something we don't like"

I think we always err on the side of freedom - with the obvious time-honored exceptions like "you can't yell fire in a crowded theater", or speech that directly incites others to violence. Speech that just makes others angry - that's their problem.

        [pedantic]Unless of course there is a fire[/pedantic]

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight

Then you still can't yell - you have speak calmly, loudly and clearly and in a British accent.

It depends on what you are calling "free speech." There is an idea here that Free Speech doesn't give you the right to yell Fire in a Crowded Theater. See I know someone who had a nasty habit of consistently complaining they couldn't get a job at a college other than as an adjunct professor. -But the same person has a very public social media account where they say things like "illegal immigrants should be shot and killed on site" "Men are stupid pigs" "Children are noisy and should be beaten by there parents" And this person consistently complains that they can't get a decent job, and are ostracized by others. I don't even socialize with the person. So, I guess it kind of depends on what you mean by "free speech." It's one thing to express your religious views, or say something like "my views are not that of the curriculum" or " I adhere to the policy of economic conservatism." But if your speech turns into something that is purposefully full of vitriol, one might find themselves in trouble.

                A) Unless, of course, there's actually a fire, then yell like crazy
                2) The reason this is frowned upon it unnecessarily puts peoples lives at risk

That person is still free to exercise his/her opinion, but is not exempt from the consequences of doing so.

With freedom comes responsibility and consequences.
