I said the same thing about "toxic masculinity" earlier in the thread, that if a man is just being rude or a jerk that isn't "masculinity" it is just a person being a jerk, and it was dismissed.
You expected Tass to be consistent?

As I've recounted before (in this very thread) I was a kid vacationing with relatives in Minnesota the first time I heard the term "male chauvinist" which a woman called me because I held the door open for her. That would have been likely around 1970-71.

I'm always still in trouble again

Sadly, I have encountered them at my youngest daughter's college. It was truly mind-blowing how "woke" these trolls thought they were.

I have a friend who once accidentally bumped into a woman at the grocery store and said, "Pardon me, ma'am." She turned on him and said, "Don't you dare call me ma'am! I am not old enough to be a ma'am!" Out of pure habit, he said, "I'm sorry, ma'am."

Ok, just wanted to be sure that was your full answer, i.e. that there is no underlying principle for why you treat women more courteously than you do men other than that you were taught to do so.

Yes, a product, of sorts, of the 'sexual revolution'. That turned out extraordinarily well!

My brother had a terrible time in Marine Corps basic -- he was taught to say "yes sir" to his elders, and you can imagine what grief non-coms give recruits who call them "sir". And when ordered NOT to call him sir, the automatic response is ...

I forgot about colleges. I don't have much interaction with college kids. I guess I should be thankful.

Would I jump out of the car and run around it in order to open the door for a perfectly healthy and capable woman any more than I would for a healthy and capable man? No. But I would and do, in either case, when it would actually be of a help to them. Would you open a car door for a man? Apparently not. Why?
