I'm pretty certain that she's safely ensconced in that places like New York are often more interested in politicians who are celebrities, put on a good show and/or entertain them than one who represents their needs

          • In her first campaign, she was considered a long-shot against a candidate who enjoyed the full backing of the Democrat party, and she still won. What makes them think they could beat her the next time around, especially if she manages to maintain her star power through the next election?

They can always hire Hillary to take her out.

                Exactly.

I hope she goes for Senate and takes Chuck Schumers seat. Then Dems would be forced to appoint a less useless senate leader because Chuck the Useless would be gone.

Hrm? A few months ago you said this regarding Ocasio-Cortez obeying Pelosi:

Which is it? Is she impervious to the dislike of the "establishment" Democrats or is she vulnerable to it?

Those aren't contradictory. She could continue to win reelection regardless of her own party's lack of support yet be given really crappy committee assignments in Congress with little or no hope of advancement. In the 1970s my Congressman was in that position.

Not really, he's just been a do-nothing-er who continues to hurt the Dems by his singular lack of leadership ability and spine. On the plus side he's not actively evil like Mitch McConnell.

Pelosi needs to give Chuck lessons on how to have a spine, she's been on fire lately and even wowed me, someone who has been a big critic of her previously.

Well at the moment they're giving her really good committee assignments - House Oversight Committee and House Financial Services Committee.

I mean, you could speculate that they're giving her the keys to the car in order to hope to see her crash and burn spectacularly. Alternatively they could be saying, "she's popular and the media likes her, so give her some publicity positions so we can get a media-friendly face on the Dem party". But the one thing they haven't done is cut her off from important committee assignments like you are suggesting they might.

At the time I said the second, I overestimated Pelosi's clout and her ability to keep her party in line, and underestimated Cortez's broader popularity.

You're right. Pelosi is doing everything perfectly. I hope she continues on her current track.
